PS3 not resetting video anymore

My ps3 is not resetting video anymore. Sometimes it work (1 out of 30), but other times it skips the video reset and goes straight to standby. By video reset I mean I hold the red led until it beeps the first time. It doesn't beep at all until it goes to standby. What could this be? My warranty is void already and its more than a year old.

Very odd, are you holding it in as it starts up?

My only suggestion would be to plug it into a standard definition tv and manually switch it to what you need.

yeah its on an AV cable to a dvd player to a tv. My other ps3 works on it. Its not even resetting the video which is very odd. I have reset video before so its not from lack of knowledge. Yes I'm holding it when its red, then it turns green while im holding it then it turns off. If i don't hold it, it turns on normally, but with no video out. I want to try with hdmi but i dont have a cable.

Dumb questions time: first question; have you tried this on another TV?

Second question, if first one is yes, do any other devices in your house an hdmi cable? If so you can use that cable for your ps3.

Third question: if this is being done through composite, have you tried a direct TV hook up; getting the DVD player out of the loop that is?

I'm thinking your issue could be that the player might be causing the problem if it works from the TV without it. Either this or its not working due to having 2 PS3's hooked up, which would be weird indeed! Either this or your cables have gone bad...

Fourth question: using your second ps3 did you try the cables from the first on it.

Just as a final dumb stupid question: have you tried another TV entirely?
