FORTIS 8x uses a few different dyes. That's why I was asking for the log file. It will show the MID which could be GSC003, OPTODISCR008 or TYG02.
Most likely, these are poor quality discs.

If you click on the word MID, you will get the definition.
Maybe with a little help from the log file you can get some burns. Maybe.

I doubt the log will show anything.
I bet your media sucks. Just because they sell the stuff doesn't mean it is any good. Even Sony is selling crap these days.
If your DVD can play on your compter use them for something that does not involve your player. Computer DVDs are often superior to readers. They can read and write to crap some readers can't read. I have 4 readers. Their ability to read is consistant. The best reads everything but that company makes computer burners. The worst only reads perfect disks. Half the time it can't read new non - burned movies.
Try going back to media you used successfully before.
You might help matters by using image burn to burn at 1X. Burning slow helps with marginal media. Unfortunatly, I doubt that your media is even marginal. Imageburn is shareware and is probably the best. That is the only software I know of that will let you burn that slow.

Bad advice.
To the OP just get discs you knew worked in the past.

MysticE, why is trying to burn at 1X a bad idea? That has worked for me hundreds of times when working with marginal media. That doesn't always work but it does work more than it does not. Granted my marginal media is probably superior since I only by the top three names.
The fix I suggested was Quote: Try going back to media you used successfully before.
However, the user is stuck with a spindle of coasters. I use mine for computer backups.

Imgburn should give you the Manufacters Identification.
Just put in a blank DVD in the drive Then open Imgburn, and in the info block to the right it should list the MID code of the DVD.
Also Multi-tasking while burning May be a Bad Idea.
Try burning at 4X with Imgburn.

The huge problem with Manufacters Identifications is by the time you know bought crap they are yours. You are only putting the face on the problem.
I take that back for newbies. Once you confirm you bought crap you can stop looking for problems.
I am just too lazy to put a face on the problem. It does nothing to solve the problem. I don't have to look up the # to know the last 2 spindles of Sony disks bought months apart have been crap. I have scratched Sony off my OK to buy list.

Yes, But If you're not totally Stupid you Never Buy the "Crappy" brand again. If you buy Cheap, you get Cheap
@ryanmc35
Have you Solved the Problem?
Are you Going to tell us what the MID is?
Can you Post A Log?
What Brand is Your Burner?
How Old Is It?
Is The Firmware Up to Date?

Berryone, that logic is flawless.
I fell stupid buying Sony again after a bad experiance. I was smart enough to only buy 1 spindle instead of the usual.
I am down to only Verbatum in my OK to buy list in a US store. On the internet you have more options.

Out of curiosity, where were the "Crappy" Sony disks made, are these the made in Malaysia type or Taiwan?

Taiwan
It is listed as top of the line media but also as second class media. So much for the ID tags! Obviously this is the 2nd class source.
This is a newbie thread that has gone off topic by video junkies. Their aim is to be able crank out perfect DVDs without skipping a beat. You can only do that with perfect media. Therefore they are obsessed with quality since it is the only chink in their armor. Having a top of the line brand not being 100% relyable is big news! Here is a listing of Manufactoring #s for the newbies so you can follow the thread. Pay attention, perfect media is important!
http://www.digitalfaq.com/media/dvdmedia.htm
SONY16D1 is the number. The ID still does not refer to who made the media other than it came from Taiwan.
The media is inconsistent between disks and on each disk. Every 2 or three disks will have a bad spot. The spot is not in the same place.

You've stumbled upon the Bubonic Plauge of the DVD World. The CDC from Atlanta is on the way to decontaminate your household. Seriously, get better media, anything will do. I recommend Taiyo Yuden or Verbatim or Sony, in that order. Stay away from the Made in India variety or Verbatim as I have heard mixed results about their quality and burnability.

I am at my whits end. I made a slideshow in Movie Maker converted it into an MPEG with TMPG and tried to burn it in Sonic MYDVD and got this error code<
"Session Fixation Error Lead In.
MY DVD will preview it fine, but I cannot burn this damn things. It is for my anniversarty, and I want to get it done this week. Anyone have any ideas.
I basically have 148 images with five songs in the background, but it will not let me burn it. Also, I have Roxio Media Creator and it won't even let me open slideshow or DVD Builder program. HELP!

This should have been a new thread.
The HUGE problem you have is they are the same thing. Roxio couldn't make ends meet because the app was garbage then they changed names or were bought out be sonic. I bought Roxio because I thought I was getting a bargan. What a piece of junk that was! I hate Nero but Roxio gave me a taste of what pure grabage is.

Actually, Nero 6 or 7 is good for this, get rid of Roxio, go to their web site and download the RoxioZap tool kit, run it to remove all of the remnants, then go here for Nero, use the trial to make your project, and you are all done.

ryanmc35, there's another thing that hasn't been mentioned that has happened to me. I'm in the states and use NTSC standard. I had a few cocktails one night and was playing around creating a menu in my ConvertXtoDVD and somehow I ended up also changing my chosen standard to PAL.
Of course the disc wouldn't play in my DVD player as it won't recognize PAL. It took making a few more coasters and a few unnecessary uninstall/reinstalls before I figured out what I had done.
I do agree that you should choose the quality of your media more carefully also.
