Well I haven't turned on my ps3 in about a week and decided to play some guitar hero. When I turned on my ps3 there is a signal but it's a black screen. I try to sync the controllers but this does not work. Then I try to turn off my ps3 using the button but it does not turn off. It makes a weird humming sound not the usual start up sounds. It still accepts discs and rejects them.I have tried the output reset to see if that's the problem but no luck plus I'm using the same tv. Umm that's all the details that would help I guess... O ya the ps3 has been switched off at the main power button on the side with all the outputs.
Any suggestions or help? the ps3 is not on warranty anymore and it's 40gig spiderman bundle.

I don't know how to edit my first post so sorry for posting a second time. Now my ps3 can power down fine but the other problems still persist. I have read about a update that can brick a ps3 but I haven't downloaded anything besides the new burnout update but it seems like the same symptoms. Black screen and controllers not syncing, can I fix this myself or must I send it to sony fro 150.

I believe now it's a harddrive problem because after I take out my hard drive and start up my ps3 it works fine and goes up to the screen that says no hard drive. So do you guys believe it's a hard drive problem? How did it break in the first place? Can I format it and hope it works again?

Yeah that sounds like it could fix if it works without the hard drive in. Just put it back in and see if the previous symptoms occur, then you will know for sure. Replacing the HDD is one of the easiest things to do, so if that's what it is, then you don't have to worry too much.

i have the same problems, but when i take the hard drive out and turn it on i don't get anything. Any ideas as to what is the problem?
