I am using Window Vista Home Premium. I always use DvdShrink to rip my dvd onto my computer. However, today when I did that, it won't allow me. It appeared this box when I click RE-AUTHOR which never happen before. Please help me.

Anyone has this issue? Is there any similiar software to it?

Are you running shrink in vista admininstrator mode ?
If not , you need to be admininstrator for shrink to operate

The BPI Are: SONY, UNIVERSAL, WARNER GROUP, EMI.
The RIAA Soundexchange Are: SONY, UNIVERSAL, WARNER GROUP, EMI.
The IFPI Are: The same anti consumer lot as listed above!
The MPAA Are: SONY, UNIVERSAL, WARNER GROUP, DISNEY, PARAMOUNT, FOX.

As the user, you must have admininstrator rights on the computer ( ie you have total control, add, delete programs, make changes, etc)

So you can say yes to everything when the computer asks you for permission as "is it ok to run this program ?"

You answer yes

You set it up in the control panel, user

The RIAA Soundexchange Are: SONY, UNIVERSAL, WARNER GROUP, EMI.
The IFPI Are: The same anti consumer lot as listed above!

Couple of thoughts or suggestions that might help...

Have you installed any other software or made any changes in your computer (including windows updates), run any kind of registry cleaning program or made any configuration changes since DVD Shrink last worked?

You can try removing Shrink and re-installing the program..

If you've manually installed any other software, you can try removing the new program and see if Shrink works again..

If you've manually made any configuration changes, you can try reversing back to what it was before.

Last resort (and sometimes the only thing that works), you can try a "System Restore" to a restore point before you started having trouble with DVD Shrink... This will undo any Windows Updates, config changes, remove any new software and put your computer back to how it was at the time the "restore point" was created.. The only things it doesn't role back are your files/documents (so if you've got anything new it won't be lost)..

eventhough you said "The only things it doesn't role back are your files/documents (so if you've got anything new it won't be lost" but i'm kinda afraid of losing my son's pictures. It's too much to make a copy right now since i'm kinda lazy ahah .. so i don't want to risk it
is there any other software that has the same function as dvdshrink? i tried Easy Dvd Shrink but it's too hard.

On 1 thread, when 1 reader updated his MS explorer, his dvd shrink quit working. When he reverted back to the old explore, all was right again

Sound like it could have been one of the automatic "Windows Updates".. In which case, a system restore to before the update was installed would fix..

I would restore back to the point where it shows the update was installed, completely remove DVD Shrink, and then run Windows Update to re-download and install everything in that update (since it will do it on its own anyway... better to control it).. Once the update is installed, probably a good idea to re-boot so all system files are completely updated...

then, re-install DVD Shrink.. whatever files or registry entries that had been corrupted should no longer be there and completely new entries should be created since you'd be installing fresh after the Windows Updates were installed..

But, JMHO.. better to fix the problem, than to try and work around it and just add something new on top of it.

I know its a bit of work, but its worth it... Had to do a "restore" myself last week after Microsoft's September "patches"... something in a program I had updated recently became corrupted and suddenly every time I tried opening any of the programs in Office 2007 (Word, Excel, Outlook) I kept getting the Windows Installer... Tried a few "work-arounds" (trying to take the "easy" way out), and didn't fix the problem.. so I ended up running a "system restore" to the point before the September patches were installed.. Then I did as I suggested above.. went ahead and manually downloaded all the updates, installed, re-booted and tried opening an Office program.. Everything back to normal and they all work like a charm again. If you've updated anything else (and the updates were removed by the restore), you might want to try installing one at a time (set a manual restore point before each one), then try DVD Shrink after each to see if it still works ok.. If so, go on to the next program, if not, restore back to just before the program you just updated and leave it out..

Generally if its something to do with a Microsoft program (like Internet Explore), whatever has changed won't be fixed by just un-installing an update... the program may appear to revert back, but the registry entries and any other files that may have been corrupted will probably still be there.. So, by doing a restore, you are reverting your system back to how is was before the problem occurred.

(yes, I know, very long-winded... but...)

This and other errors have been popping up on other forums. Simply uninstalling IE8 and reinstalling IE7 will fix this.

True, but its not just upgrading to IE8 that's been causing problems even though the .dll referenced has to do with Internet Explorer.. With the problems I had, it apparently was something in the Windows Updates that did it.. I do have IE7 installed, but I never use it... I prefer Firefox and probably won't even think of upgrading to IE8 until they push it out automatically in some kind of an update.

Or when I upgrade to whatever the next OS is and get forced to get a newer version of MS-Office.

just my 2 cents...
