What movie are you trying to burn? What size is the file you are trying to burn? What is the size of disk you are using? What is the brand of disks you are using? We need more information to offer our assistance.

To add to what rtm said, also what operating system are you using. As he said the more you can explain to use the details of your process, the better equipped we are to assist.

The fact that it is only 87 minutes long does not necessarily mean that it will fit on a dvd-5 disk as you have. I know that some of them say 120 min. but that can be misleading as there are many variable associated with the actual size of the file. What program are you using to actually burn the video to disk? If you could post a burn log from this program it would benefit us in helping you with your problem.

Is the movie from a standalone DVD recorder from TV or is it a commercial DVD?

If it's from a commercial dvd:

Rip with dvdfab

Transcode with dvd shrink

Burn with imgburn

Easiest format to use.

"Unable to recover TOC means the drive cannot read the disc ( TOC = table Of Contents) . The TOC tells the drive whats on the disc and how to play it and what order basically.
If the drive is unable to read it, it means it cannot read the disc.

Options open to you are:
Update firmware and/or use better quality discs like taiyo yuden or verbatims." -- from Imgburn Support Forum

Do You Know How to create an ISO in Shrink?

http://www.dvdplusvideo.com/Guides/DVDFa...Burn_Guide.html

I think your IMATION Discs Are OK to Use (For His Stuff)IF Your Son Can "Operate" The DVD Player.

Just Slow the Burn speed down to 1/2 the Rated speed of the Blank Disc. (No Slower Than 4X)

Also if you Know how to change the Target Area (to 4300), that would also help.

UpDating your Firmware is a good Idea.
