dvd shrink burn error

can anybody help me? my brother is more familiar with fixing this but he's away. dvd shrink always works but it wont now, it encodes but wont burn. i have tried different speed dvds as sometimes 16x dont work. it just keeps puttin up this message when it fails:

Your burner doesn't quite know what to do with these particular discs, see below..

..however this paragraph then states it doesn't recognise the disc it happily recognised in the previous paragraph. Very odd..

Your burner is a few years old (which in itself is fine) and it's now discontinued, which means there's no longer any 'firmware' being released; so basically this means the firmware on the drive, version 103C according to your logfile isn't equipped to recognise those particular discs.
I've done some searching and it looks like 103C was released in 2005, and was the latest firmware that was released for this burner.
So your best bet is to try blank discs you've used successfully before..
