Ok i have a good TV, i have a PS3 and i want to get some surround sound. I watch my movies, blu-ray and normal, on my PS3, so i want to be able to have surround sound with my PS3 and not have to get another DVD player, also i would like to be able to watch normal TV in surround sound.
What is the best way to do this?
My TV has 1 red and 1 white audio out connection, 1 spare HDMI spot and a digital audio out connection. I really dont want to get a DVD player because i watch my movies on the PS3.
Preferably under $500 (not including possible price of HDMI cable).
You're probably not going to find a whole system (receiver and speakers+sub), that can handle the HD audio found on blu ray movies, for that price. You can get a receiver for that (Onkyo TX-SR606), but will still need speakers and sub. Know that speakers are the most important part of a home theater system.
If you don't care about the HD audio formats, you can buy a system (Pioneer or Sony) from Wal Mart for around $400-$500, that will give you surround sound. Know too, that only certain tv channels broadcast in 5.1 surround..........HD channels, some PPV channels, and a few premium movie channels (HBO, Starz, etc.) You can set receiver to use Pro Logic II (simulated surround) for regular tv channels.
You may find a decent system on Craig's List. But the new HD audio formats are so new, it's doubtful you'll find a receiver that can handle them, on Craig's List yet. Maybe in another year or two. Be careful on CL. There's a lot of scammers on there. They sell "White Van" speaker systems, that are just plain garbage. If the deal sounds too good to be true, it probably is!

i recently bought a 5.1 surround sound system (home cinema style) and realised my tv does not have the right connections.
is there any kind of adapter i can get to change from the 1 red and 1 white slot on my tv or from the usb connection on my ps3 to accomodate the 3 red and 3 white required for the surround sound?
