Hello everyone, not so new here....but I just upgraded my 60gb to a 320 and I want to install linux on it as well. Problem is when I checked the first time only yellow dog was officially released for it. But after searching through the forums Ubuntu is now available. From what I read they both support many of the PS3's features, is there one that you can probably do more with. And I read about the hard drive partitioning, I have 298 available for the ps3 OS alone, do I have to reformat to install for linux, 20g is not used at all by anything, i remember the console asking me if i wanted the full hd to be used by the ps3 OS, i choose no.
Ubuntu has been available for a while along with a lot of other versions of Linux.YDL is the only officially supported version out; the rest are community supported. Unless they are fixed you will have wifi problems ubuntu on the PS3 as well as watching DVDs. The wifi can be fixed so that its just a hassle but nonetheless their is a problem there. If you are not familiar with shell scripting and want to have a flawlessly running linux OS on your PS3 I would stay away from Ubuntu.
Flawless and hassle free is nice, and i hate scripting. Thanks this answers my question. I hate dealing with computer problems. Do you think i will have to reformat the hard drive even though i already don't have the full hard drive dedicated to the ps3 os?
