Dark Knight

Just use Anydvd 6.4.8.7 with AI Scanner on always enable with DVD Shrink
Just remember to change the AI Scanner back to default when done

for whatever reason when I used Clonedvd2 2.9.2.0 it would error out at 99%

Step Brothers

Just use DVDFab 5.1.2.0

Hello All.

Is anyone else still having problems with 'Step Brothers'. I tried the latest AnyDVD (6.4.9.0) w/ Decrypter and the burn is ok, but there must be an IFO missing because I cannot play the main movie... it goes straight to the 'special features'.

I DL'd the latest free Fab also (5.2.2.0, I believe) and I get a read error around 40%... tried ripping with (2) drives.

Something has to work... thanks for the help in advance!

Thanks!

Did you check that everything was correct before burning?

Try ripping the movie again (assuming you are doing full-disc) and process the files through Vobblanker before transcoding and burning.

Some assembly required.

Thanks for the quick replies guys...

Dialysis, Nero 'analyzed' it just fine, but when it went to burn... it reported a file was 'missing'. I then tried Clone DVD 2 (2.9.2.0 I believe) and it processed everything fine. Usually, if there's an IFO issue, it corrects it before starting the recoding. I just thought something was up with Nero. I use both programs to burn.

sKr, thanks for the tip. I'll try that later today... working now. :(

I know there's a resolution with DVD Fab 5.1.2.0, but since there's been a newer update since that rev, I thought that would've worked fine to rip. Disc is pristine condition too... no marks, fingerprints, etc.

I thought there would have been more 'discussion' about this movie... it is a Sony release after all!

Thanks again. I'll report back later or this weekend.

Try updating your DVDFab and make sure that the files play correctly before you burn.

A good piece of advice there. You'll make less coasters by checking everything before you burn it. Good luck and please post back with the results.

Some assembly required.

Backed-up my 2-disk unrated version with dvdfab 5110 very easily. Usual process of dvdfab > fixvts > dvd shrink > imgburn made a very nice copy of full disk.

I backed this one up w/ an older version of AnyDVD (6.4.7.9) & CloneDVD. Not a problem.
It wasn't until I tried Narnia that I realized the pc I was using had a older version of AnyDVD - that one did need the latest version.

Greetings All.

Just an update with my 'issue'... Root cause: operator error.

Long story short, I didn't realize I had to first choose the 'theatrical' or 'extended' version before playing the movie, or choosing a scene from the scene selection menu. Duh. Once I did, everything played fine.

I found this out after running the movie thru vobBlanker, which found no errors... and burning it again using Nero, which didn't work the first time I tried it. When I checked the Nero copy out on my player, nothing came up and knew something was still wrong... which is when I went back to main menu and chose 'play movie', instead of going to the scene selection screen.

Ok, so it wasn't too short... but problem resolved. Thanks to all again for the quick responses and suggestions. I appreciate it.

Take care,

Gregg

Can someone please help me? I was able to rip Step Brothers fine with the newest version of Dvd Fab... It ripped all of the VTS.VOB files. I tried then running those files through FixVTS and VOB Blanker too, before transcoding them in Shrink. However, I kept getting an error each time... It said "the dvd file size is too big", and it won't backup in Shrink. What am I doing wrong?? Should I rip it a different way in Fab? Or do I need to change a setting in Shrink? Compression is on automatic, and I even tried taking out the French/Spanish audio and subtitle files to free up space, but clearly that wasn't enough... Please help!

Thank you

I used VOB Blanker! I said I tried both VOB Blanker and FixVTS. After using both, I still got the "this dvd file size is too big" error in Shrink. In VOB Blanker, I input the Video_TS.IFO file right? Then it outputs the new files into a folder... and those are the files I "open" in Shrink? It analyzes fines. Then I go to "backup" and it says file size is too big. I don't get that... I thought Shrink's job was to shrink it?? I tried FixVTS as well. I clicked on that same Video_TS.IFO file, then clicked on "full dvd" so it'd scan the whole disc, then ran those files through Shrink, and same error as with VOB Blanker... what should I try next??

Are you blanking out individual titles , or just processing the entire movie with vob blanker ?

@mcelano83

Thinking you're going for full DVD copy with all the extras (my personal preference). Problem is, DVD Shrink will shrink the original down, but it can only go so far... After a point, the quality level will be so bad on a DVD+/-R that it pretty much won't be watchable.

As much as you don't want to, this may be a movie that you have to burn on a DL disc.... or find a way to split it to burn on 2 singles.. I've done over a hundred movies so far and keep a small spindle of DL just in case.. So far, I've only had to use 2 (Shrink would have had to compress to "less than 50%" to be able to fit on a single layer disc, and I believe it gave me the same error you're getting..

The alternative might be to try DVD-Rebuilder to re-encode (Shrink transcodes) and then burn with ImgBurn.. Can't tell you how to do that though, have the program, but haven't had the time to try it yet.. But there are more than enough experts here who swear by it and they'll be able to help you out if you want to try it.

...... also, from the post right above yours, sounds like there are 2 versions on the disc 'theatrical' or 'extended'... are you trying to do both at once, or one at a time.. You're probably going to want to put each version on a single disc if you want to copy both.. (might be the reason why Shrink can't take it down far enough)..

For Bryston:
I am just processing the whole movie through VOB Blanker... not blanking out individual titles... is that what I'm supposed to do? How do I go about doing that?

For Joleca:
I do have DL discs... I could use Nero or DVD Decrypter to burn? Even if I wanted to go this route... what file(s) do I burn from the .IFO files I ripped with Dvd Fab? Those files aren't burnable I thought? Would I need to re-rip it a different way so that I can get an .ISO or .MDS file so that I can burn it straight on the DL and avoid the whole Shrink process all together?? Thank you

mcelano83,

You can still use DVD Shrink to transcode and burn as you normally would, you just need to go into the options (Under Edit, Preferences) and change your Target DVD size from DVD-5 to DVD-9. Once you do that, Shrink should have no problem (at least it didn't with the 2 I did) and just use your DL disc for it to burn as usual..

Just don't forget to go back and change the DVD size back to DVD-5 when you're done, or you'll find it saying nothing needs to be compressed and you'll end up with a ISO that won't fit on a regular sized disc. :)
