Hi All,

I am trying to find a program that will create HD AVI's that are playable through TVersity on the PS3. If there is anyone that has any info it would be greatly appreciated. Right now I have all my media on an external HD on my PC and am streaming it to my PS3 using TVersity. I have a few AVI's that are not compatible with the PS3 and would like to recreate them. I apoligize if this is in the wrong forum. If so, please let me know and I will re-post in the correct spot.

Thanks,

i use a program called Gotsend for hd content that wont stream over i have the same setup as you ps3 tversity a trick i found is before you covert the file just try to rename it with .avi at the end if it not already there like .mkv files just rename to moviename.mkv.avi and it will stream over for non hd files that need to be converted i use total video converter (torrent it)

hope that helps

Some .avi files are encoded using codec settings that don't jive with the PS3. You can just use Avisynth + MeGUI or VirtualDubMod to re-encode the files using an Xvid/DivX codec that the PS3 will accept.

But I don't have much experience with HD content in an .avi container, so I don't know exactly how to go with it. Are you sure it's in an .avi container?

TVersity, PMS (PS3 Media Server) etc.. won't really matter. It'll matter on the original encoding. You CAN get your media server to re-encode it on the fly, but it doesn't work well with video files if you're doing it wirelessly. Tends to studder.

Since the PS3 doesn't play x.264 (.mkv) files, I just got a 720HD version of a movie, and used Allok MOV Converter to re-encode it to DIVX (2500kbps bitrate which is max it allowes you) and the quality is GREAT and plays fine on my PS3.

I've also used iSkySoft Video Converter to convert videos to DIVX (2500kbps for HD files) and they play fine on my PS3.

DivX Converter might work fine as well, but I haven't tried playing any files encoded with it on my PS3 yet (not HD files that is)

Actually, the PS3 DOES play x264-encoded videos (in fact, it plays all h264 videos... that's sort of why it's a Blu-Ray player). What it can't play is the .mkv container that the x264 video is placed into.

.mkv files can contain any number of items in it, which makes it very complicated, which is why the PS3 doesn't support it. You can put any number of audio/video files in it, some of which the PS3 likely can't handle, not to mention text subtitle files.

The easiest way to get that .mkv to work is to remux it into a AVC folder using tsMuxer. This way, you're more or less creating a Blu-Ray disc, which you can then burn or place onto your PS3's HDD. This is also the only way to get switchable subtitles.

So yeah, just wanted to correct that little part of your post.
