I'm using a new computer, and I have just tried copying a DVD with it. I know that it is not the DVD's fault because i have copied the same exact DVD before with my other computer.
In dvd shrink, it goes through all the steps that it normally would, and says that it successfully burns the DVD. However when i go to play it in a dvd player, it says that there is a disc error or something along those lines. and i know that its not the dvd player because i have tried it on multiple ones.
I've tried everything i know to fix this problem, and i'm sick of wasting dvd's only to find out that they don't work.
Please give me some ideas as to what i can do to fix it.
Thanks,
Joe

DVD Shrink doesn't do a great job of decryption for DVDs. You should try using DVD Decrypter, then try to burn the files it creates using DVD Shrink. RipIt4Me is also a good program to have in combination with DVD Decrypter and DVD Shrink. If you need a program to burn with ImgBurn is another good one.

Hi People,
I am having the same trouble as DJ. Up until a couple of months ago i was backing up my DVD collection no worries (using DVD Shrink & Nero 8). Then all of a sudden none of my new ones will play in my DVD player. They all work fine on the computer/laptop but will not play in various DVD players that i have tried. I have checked a newly burnt DVD next to one of my older ones & the Video files look exactly the same. Im confused!!
Is there something i am missing? I used to be fairly cluey with these kind of things but am sorry to say i drifted from the computer scene a bit & now find my-self that far behind its not funny!! - Not a good feeling!
If anyone can shed some light it would be appreciated & i apoligise if i have posted in the wrong area (Mods, feel free to chastise) :)
Cheers,
For reference i am using:
- TDK / SONY discs (both having been used successfully before)
- ATAPI DVD Drive (also used successfully before)

Dvd shrink does not work with Nero 8 or 9
Shrink works with 6 or 7
dvds backed up on Nero 8 or 9 will play fine on pc only, but not on a stand alone player

I am having the same problem ever since I got a new computer with vista. I use DVD Shrink 7. Have tried using DVD Decryptor and burning with both Nero and Imgburn. Sometimes I can get a playable DVD, but usually not. I have also found that the copies may not play in one player but will play in another.
I have been backing up DVD for years without major problems. The trouble all started when I got Vista. Go figure!

Nope, not a new thing. 'Tis a well documented compatability issue. More info here: http://forums.afterdawn.com/thread_view.cfm/579890
It is still possible to create an ISO then burn manually with Nero 8, though.

What is Dvd Shrink 7?

Dvd Decrypter is no longer supported and can't crack everything that's out there right now. An updated freeware ripper is DvdFab Hd Decrypter.
Disc brand, and format, and burn speed may account for some of your playability issues. For best results use good blank media Taiyo Yuden, Verbatim, or Sony. Burn at half the rated speed of the disc or 8x max with no multitasking. If using the +R format, booktype to DVD-ROM, assuming your drive supports booktyping.

People: Take note that when switching computers, you're also switching dvd-rw drives- unless you swapped them out.If you got a good dvd-rw drive, keep it. Not all dvd-rw drives are alike. Some are great, mediocre, and purely crap drives-especially the bundled computers. When switching dvd-rw drives, the blank media and format you stuck with before, may not work so great for your next dvd-rw drive.Stand alone player's no disc errors will tell you that.
Go through the usual crap you have to do to eliminate the vista and nero 8/9 issues. After that and problems arrise, look toward your blank media.Make sure it's high quality media and try the opposite format.Booktype them to dvd-rom if your dvd-rw drive has that capability.

I am having the same problem. I have been backing up my DVDs for a very long time. I have been using DVD shrink as well as DVDfab platinum 5.2.2.0. I have had no problems up to now. They play on the PC but not on my home dvd player. I have even tried some of the dvds that I had played on my home player before and now they don't play.
I have Win XP pro and nero 7.
I tried the nero recode but that would not play either. I also tried the ImgBurn with the same results.
I am thinking of going back to an earlier version of DVDfab but not sure if that would help.
The problem I am with DVDfab is that it doesn't open an image file on my Hard drive so I have been using old faithful dvdshrink.
Any help you can give me would be most appreciated. It is driving me crazy.

I didn't know there was an issue... but it MAY explain why I couldn't burn 28 days later and 28 weeks later. Like the other guys, I've done it before using DVDShrink and its been hunky dory but recently started using it again on new machine and its coming out with unplayable discs... haven't tried it on the PC but the DVDs definately don't work on the DVD player. However there seems to be stuff on there as On the display menu ,I can see some chapters and things there but its just not playing. Don't wanna waste more DVDRs so please could someone suggest something? I will try the imgburn program... hopefully that will work?
Thanks guys

Well sir! Glad I found this place and now I know what's going on with the Nero 9 and DVD Shrink.
Just to let you guys know.... you can still shrink then burn with the Nero BUT... you have to open up Nero, find the files and do it manually.
Rip to hard drive with ANYDVD then shrink with DVD Shrink. Find shrunk file and burn with either Nero or CloneDVD.
