1) Anydvd is a supported ripper
2) dvd shrink has not been supported since 2004
3) CloneDVD works with Anydvd (was made for it)and transcodes the files to fit onto a dvd-5 disc
4)Anydvd will work in the background and work with dvd shrink
CloneDVD2 is faster by the way.
DVDShrink is free.
DVDShrink morphed into Nero Recode, the same guy who wrote DVDShrink now writes Recode for Nero, go figure.
Shrink has an older DVDcompression program which will work on older DVD's but needs help with the newer ones as bryston said, CloneDVD2 has no ability to break into a DVD at all, can't even handle CSS.
Not to start an argument between the two camps, but there really is no difference in the quality of the finished product from either program.

That part is true, however that is why you check the forums, as you did, before deciding on which ones to use. Also, none of the programs mentioned in this thread fall into the "crap" category, so you have nothing to fear :)

only problem with that is dvd shrink won't do most the newer releases ,the program needs help with either anydvd or dvdfab decrypter. all you're options/info/guides are here to backup you're DVDs
