I have used 3.1.5 without erros other than some occasional freezes in playback of my backup DVD copies...3.1.6 supposedly works on resolving some of those errors...I have burnt two DVDs and have since ceased until I get some advice in this forum after having two DVDs not finish burning properly...I get an error message saying that the 'write out' or 'fade out' at the end of burning didn't occur properly...It occurs after encoding and at the very end of burning, right after 99%...I am using Nero 5.5.10.42, Sony DVD DRU 500AX and Sony 4X DVD-Rs with Windows XP...This is the error message that Shrink displays.

aspire180,

When you deluge us with too much info we don't have the time to read it -

We're here on our free time to help as MANY others as possible.

I'm not going to read it either so I'll suggest to you 2 things.

1. Your burn didn't finish so I suspect at least part of your problem is media - use either Ritek G04 or Verbatim - cheap stuff doesn't cut it.

2. Download Nero 6 trial version (good for 30-days)
I think you're making a mistake using Nero 5 and by using Nero 6 with Shrink 3.1.6 it will remove you from the equation by burning your DVD automatically -

A 30-day, free, fully functional Nero 6 download can be had here:

Hi Aspire180,
One of the things you may try when writing to your Sony media is to slow down the write speed from 4X to 2X. Another is to go into Shrink> Edit> Preferences and reduce the overall size a bit. This will leave some of the outer area of the disc unwritten by applying a bit more compression to your movie, Leaving some "good" disc for the lead out.

All DVD discs must have three basic areas recorded on them: lead-in, user data and lead-out. The lead-in and lead-out areas are boundaries that indicate to a DVD player where the inner and outer limits of the recording are. They contain no user accessible information, but are required for the disc to work properly.
Your occasional freezes also indicate a media problem so you would do well to take Pete's advice and switch brands.

Cheers,
Frank
