I have problems with the sound randomly failing on my PS3. My PS3 is hooked up with a HDMI cable with auto settings for audio and video. 1/3 times when I turn it on there is no sound on the system. Nothing works except getting up and rebooting the system by holding down the power button and reapplying setting. My system is still under warranty, should I replace it?

I just swapped HDMI cables, I'll see if it persists. Are you sure its connection though because it always worked after a reboot.

So it won't work unless a reboot? What about if it sits for a while? I also had this problem with sound as well, just forgot. The problem stopped once I hooked up my PS3 to my receiver and then went to the TV. This led me to believe it was the connections on my TV. If it wont work unless you reboot though then I would call Sony. Mine would only go out temporarily, like for a second or two.

I tried a new cable with no success. I had the problem again yesterday. Basically whatever I do in the XMB or load a movie, music, DVD, BluRay and there would be no sound. I know it isn't the connection on the TV because I tried a different input. I found a workaround for the problem though, I started a game and the sound came back at the menu of the game. Then when I exited the game the sound was back on the XMB.
I was planning on waiting for a system update first thinking that my system may not have been updated properly. Should I do that or send it in to Sony? How long does Sony take?

if you got it from walmart take it back to their first and swap it out for another one. ive already to do it twice. never given me any problems.

Can't do that, I have the 80GB MGS Bundle. It's not sold anywhere now.
