SjRick,
WHoooow, Ya got me confused -
Quote: I have used this program and it seemed to work ok for me,, i used dvd xpress,,, ya cant beat the price,, (free)
I'm not sure how you got DVD Xpress for free - It is a for $$.$$ program.
You also state (I think) that you are using AnyDVD AND DVD43 - Since they both break the encryption and de-regionize (sp) How, pray tell, can you tell which is doing which and how well ?
Lastly, unless you are living in Australia, DVD Xpress has it's own ripper - Soooooooo, if DVD Xpress has it's own ripper plus you are using DVD43 Plus you have installed AnyDVD how can any evaluation to be made - ??
cisco3280, Since DVD43 works in the background, un-encrypting and de-regionizing (Goodness do I love making up words) What type of tutorial were you looking for ?
As far as my experience in using the DVD43 program is concerned, it's never and I state this, without a doubt of ever being wrong, never, and I reiterate, Never has it ever bitten me in the Butt :D)
Guys, I?m not doing anything except wondering - I?m old and the gray matter doesn?t process info like it should - :0

your right,, i dont know what the hell i was talking about,, i think i was looking at the keyboard while i was thinking and had every kinda program running at the same time in my head,,lol, sorry bout that.
In a nutshell my problem is,, i rewiped my computer and loaded the newest version of DVD Xpress and it totally froze up my system. Now keep in mind, this newer version doesnt come with the ripping software due to the new laws now,, so i think thats what started out my woes,, looking for good ripping software that works well,, i dont know what to do now,,
I hate to keep loading program after program,, cuz after i deleted one program,, it deleted this Patin-Couffin thing that i needed to run the drive itself,,So now i need to either find a good program to begin with or keep rewiping my system to make sure i dont have these problems anymore,, i know its the old killing a fly with a machine gun theory,, but i dont know what else to do, THere are so many pointers from threads in here,,i just cant filter out the good ones,,

SjRick,
(Truly wish these Newbies would out grow that lousy DVD XCopy and get with a dependable free program)
OK, at the top of the page, type in DVD43 and click search to find your free ripper OR pickup AnyDVD (about $40.00 BUT has a 21-day free trial) both will work with 321's products -
Remember to check all the "Black List" conflicts too -

No, No, No, No, Mr. SjRick,
De Pete-ster means nothin? negative in his mumblings -
Tis? not a thing wrong with DVD Xcopy stuff, we all bought it when we started out - then we found out about other programs that were better (or close to it :D) so we tease one another and, yes, even some ?New? guys :-)
About your missing Patin-Couffin drivers, They are generally best for ?BlindWrite? the software burner - If you?re in need of that specific one, try the BlindWrite HP. If it?s for any other program, try ASPI from Adaptec - it?s pretty good :p
Here it is - -> http://download.com.com/3000-2098-10161912.html
As far as your system sometimes ?locking up a bit? - could be AnyDVD plus DVD43 together. You might look into Decrypter too _ I?m not familiar with R/F DVD XCopy stuff - it might be of some help, you?ll have to check it out :)
Here is your DVD43 -
http://www.afterdawn.com/software/video_software/dvd_rippers/dvd43.cfm
I got mine ?away back when ? as they say -
And for being such a fine contestant on our show we?d like you to have a truly neat parting gift called 321Gone, to banish that annoying little warning screen that 321 installs on your backup. Use it with our compliments :D

Just some food for thought - Take a look at this program - it is FREE - you will need a software burning program but I?ve attached a 30-day trial of Nero so give it a try - it?s fun and simple :-)
Shrink download - http://www.afterdawn.com/software/video_software/dvd_rippers/dvd_shrink.cfm Shrink Guide -
http://www.chrismccann.co.uk/dvd_shrink_3.htm
and - (you never even have to open it - DVD Shrink will open it up ?behind the scenes? when it burns your DVD for you)
A 30-day, free, fully functional Nero 6 download can be had here:

However, I did forget something - I forgot to hook you up with your Patin-Couffin drivers for your DVD43 - (I guess I'm losing brain cells, lol) Anyway - here it is :-)

Hey, How're Ya doin there schwarz,
To get the DVD Shrink Guide be a down-right, most easy thing - Open the Guide up and use your mouse to highlight the whole thing - then go to "edit" and click "copy".
Back to your desktop - open your Word Processor, click your mouse there so that you have a flashing cursor - go to "edit" and click "Paste" and then click "save As" name your file and save it :-)
(Me, I first save it in my "Favorites" - so I can always find it anytime :P)
After everything is downloaded and DVD Shrink and Nero are installed -
There are 2 ways to do it -
The First, Open DVD Shrink and keep the program on the right side of your screen then open up the Guide and keep it on the left-side of the screen and swap from one to the other.
Another way to do it is to go to File, and select "Print" and make a little paper Book to follow along while using Shrink.
Any help I can be, just holler -
Pete

Ok Mr Pete
heres my update. I rewiped my system once more,,loaded DVD Shrink, Nero 6 full version which i own, and ripped the movie Gladiator. It ripped fine and went to C drive and remained there until i went to the next step which was step 5.
Keep in mind,, the ONLY thing that was installed first was DVD Shrink, Nero, thats it,, no XP update, nothing. Now 41%of step 5 caused my system to once again LOCK up,, froze everything,, so now im back to square one,, and considering what ive done with my computer,, ya cant go back any further then i did,,LOL
Ok wise Sir,,walk me thru it, what can i do? In my mind,, im taking this back and perhaps get an AMD system setup. I have used those in the past and I figured Id try a P4 setup,, man what a disapointment.
My system is a P4 3.0 512 ram. LG dvd burner. A Biostar motherboard. 800 FSB. Radeon 7500 video card.
I am using windows XP home and have never had any problems with it before,,I dont know whether its the mobo or what,, cant really figure this one out,

SjRick,
Let's get your system together, updates, firmware (if needed) and get the stuff I posted for you and download that J it?s great stuff and when you might want it, you?ll most probably never be able to find it (Laws and all )
OK, What I?d like you to do is head on down to the ?Free Store?, Yes, I know it?s a long walk but it?ll be good for you, hurry up and I?ll have a PP&J sandwich ready for you when you get back :-)
Well Alrighty then, Create yourself a folder and name it My DVD Work. Next, in that folder, create another folder with the name of the movie you're going to be working with - (Most koolness :)
OKie, Dokie, let's rip your DVD using Decrypter in the "file" mode - THEN use the folder you made as your destination folder -
Once you're done that, Open DVD Shrink and choose "Open Files", go to that folder and let Shrink process that - When done, open your DVD Player and let's see if you can get that to play on Mr.' "Puter" - Let me know how you made out -

Yes, it's another noob here... :-)
I'm on the verge of getting started with all this. I even bought DVDXCOPY Platinum last week to get the pre-RF version, but haven't opened the box yet and may take it back after reading some of these threads.
My starter question is: I'm planning to buy a new computer, one of those high-end Windows Media Center Editions. I have read that DVDXCOPY will have problems with Media Center. What about all these free/trail programs y'all are using here?
I need to not only be able to backup DVDs (some double-layer, that DVD-9 right?) but also just transfer movies to my hard drive so this Media Center software could just play them for me (or rather, my kids could easily pick the movie they want to watch - no more sticky fingers on DVDs...)
So, in a nutshell, can I use a Media Center 2004 system with all this stuff to achieve what I need? Any recommendations on computer models, min. requirements, etc? I'm leaning towards an HP system (m480y).
Thanks in advance for any guidance you can offer.

SteveDJ,
You'll get all kinds of answers, so all I'm going to say is, for the most part, I'm very satisfied with my system. I would suggest that you go for a faster processor (3.2, pent 4). When they come out with a 4.0Ghz then I'll purchase that. They way I have mine setup is just unplug my 2.84 and plug in the faster processor :P)
1 Gig of RAM is great :)

Hey Mr Pete
Thought I forgot about you ? Hardly,, you would not believe whats going on with my system,, i have literally replaced everything in it, and it is still locking up, I am running the programs you recommended,, my DVD Xpress program and the computer locks up whenever i run it. I am now replacing the mobo. Lucky it is still under warranty,, so i am having them do it for me,, getting an Asus board and hopefully it wont lock up. If it does again,, then i know its a faulty P4 chip,, thats it,, nothing else left,,LOL
Anyways, i had a question for you,, i ran that Dvd gone thread you gave me to remove that annoying logo, and it didnt work for me,, i ran it right before i burned the disc and it didnt remove it,, i read the instructions and its pretty straightforward but it didnt work for me,,i must be missing something,, but no biggy i can live with the warning,, i will keep you up to date ,, thanks for all your help

SjRick,
When you do DVD backups. it takes a lot of power, you could be overheating, that would cause what you're experiencing - try to increase your cooling ability -
321Gone only works on XP and 2000 :-(

I recall trying it once before it all froze up Pete,, and the thing i dont get is how to burn it to dvd. I place the ripped info in an easy to find folder and when i go to burn it,, i think its ripped as a seperate audio and video file,i forget , i use Nero,, is it as simple as dragging the two files into Nero? Or do you have to set it up somehow?
