Okay I know this is about 2 years late but I have had my PS3 for about a year now and until now all I have done with it is play games and watch Blu-Ray. I now have a pretty extensive collections of movies music and pictures on my PC and I would like to be able to access them from my PS3 to watch them on my tv or listen to them through my HD receiver. If anyone could be kind enough to help a newbie out I would appreciate it.
You should have windows media player on your pc. you will need version 11 which is free to update too. In WMP11, set up folders and files that you want to share. once done, enable media server on your PS3 music, video and pictures. WMP11 sharing will take some time to figure out how to do. If I can do it, anyone can.
Windows media player works, but I would try a program called Tversity or the new PS3 media server. Tversity is arguably the King when it comes to a media server.
Zero, i have not heard of the new PS3 Media server. Have you tried it. WMP11 can be a pain. Got to refresh when you add new stuff and such. Im interested.
I'm sure most of the streaming programs nowadays can stream it, but you'd likely need a wired connection and a pretty good PC.
That said, you might also need AVCHD-Me to get the PS3 to recognize the Blu-Ray folder, as that program sort of "tricks" the PS3 into seeing a Blu-Ray disc instead of a folder.
But if you're talking about something else, like a blu-ray movie in an .mkv file or something, that's something completely different.

All the streaming programs "stream TO your PS3," but I think your main point is that it's easy to use. Just felt the need to correct that lil' bit while I was at it.
