Here's the thing, I read the article ps3 online with no router
I simply did what was easiest and recommended:
Plugging a ethernet cable from my PS3 to my modem, thE cable is 50 ft long... If thats a problem please tell me now! Since I would have to return it to BestBuy.
Other than that, I've tried going into my settings, and manually entering the IP adress, and I've also tried to let the PS3 find it by itself, but when I do that, it fails...
My modems company is Arris, i dont know if that'll help or not, but anyways.
It only has 1 ethernet port, and one usb port. The two other ones say Tel 1 and Tel 2... And Tel 1 is connected. My dad says we've got high-speed now, but that Tel 1 makes me still think I have dial up... Is that possible?
Any answers would be swell! Thanks!
I discovered another weird thing today, and I don't know if it means my connection is too slow :
When I put the network connections to easy, then automatic everything and not use proxy, I get the message saying:
Obtaining IP Adress has timed out,
or something like that.
Does that mean my connection is simply too slow?
If it comes from a phone line then its DSL or PPPoe. Its not lightning fast but you should be able to connect and get a deacent speed. Run speedtest.net on the computer and post the upload, download and ping it tells you.
And do you have to put in a password to log onto the internet?

No I dont need to, and yes I tried resetting the modem.
But I also need to find out if there is a router built-in to my modem... Cuz if there isn't (thats if having no router is even possible... since Im not sure)I think the only thing I might be missing is a router... Kinda stupid...
So is there a way to find out if there's a router built-in?
if you don't have extra ports on that modem then its not a router. If you can get on you PC with no problem while that is connected. But like asked before do you have DSL, Cable modem, do you sign in with a password? If you do sign in with a password I don't think that you can make this work on the ps3 but I could be wrong. Get yourself a wireless G router if you want to go wireless and it also gives you the option to use wired connection and should give you the ip address as long as the DHCP is turned on in the router.
if your modem is a router then it would have extra Ethernet ports and maybe a wireless antenna if it does wireless. you can connect your ps3 straight from a modem.
do what canuckerz said and run a speed test at www.speedtest.net if you get a result over 512kbps then you have broadband.
Although surely the easiest way to tell if you still have dial up is to listen...
