PS3's Play TV can record and save 3GB+ files, but cant copy them?!

Hey there,

I have a 60GB PS3 with the PlayTV add-on which can record any freeview TV and save it on your PS3 Hard drive. I'm aware that the PS3 HDD and any external drives you connect must be formatted as FAT32 meaning it can't support and individual file larger than 4GB, yet it manages to save recordings that are larger than 4GB as a single video file!

I imagine it must segment and link them somehow, but still show it as a single file on the XMB.

The problem occurs when trying to copy the file to an external device, the device wont support the file because it's larger than 4GB, so how does the PS3 manage to support it and is there any way to copy it off? If it is segmented, why doesn't it copy to other devices in the same way?
