I tried both programs and neither of them are working. I have been researching this for the past two hours. dvd shrink says, failed to read file...data error (cyclic redundancy check)dvd decrypter wont read the disc(s) and I paid for that service. the past couple of weeks my discs cannot be read on my dvd player either, just my pc. am I missing something

First of all, I am not sure what you meant when you said that you paid for something, as both programs you stated are available free. That said, the cyclic redundancy check is most likely caused by the fact that neither of the programs are updated anymore and cannot handle the newer copy protection schemes. You never stated what movies you were having the difficulties with. However, regardless of the flick, here is one method many regulars implement in their backup quest.

From 1bonehead

1) decrypt to HDD with dvdfab HD (free version) Or use paid for version
2) process files (all) with fixvts
3) shrink files with dvd shrink, output as iso/image to HDD
4) burn iso/image file with IMgburn

all programs are free

Imgburn, free from

fixvts, free from

dvdfabHD free from

dvd shrink 3.2.0.15

and a guide to use all the programs

Sorry, but I just gotta chuckle at all the threads about people that are upset about a program that has not been updated or supported for over a couple of years now... not working on the latest dvds.

Although both programs are still useful... they are both secondary programs at best... not the first line of attack that they were in their prime.

Paid for what? If you paid for either Dvd Shrink or Dvd Decrypter; i'm sad to say you got ripped.

The others here are quite right...while still useful in certain scenarios neither program is updated.

Check both links in my sig for comprehensive information about the latest methods, programs, links, and guides.

I would also suggest running a thorough virus scan on your system.

Anyone that is naive enough to pay for old, outdated freeware may have also paid for a program with malware or a trojan horse attached to it.

You may want to try Kaspersky Online Scanner...

or Panda Activescan in your IE browser...
