Iam almost there in understanding how to transcode and burn a HD film(MKV)to DVD5 or DVD9 to play on a PS3, but have had allot of trouble along the way, ive had picture with no sound, sound but no picture, and even a black screen with a green bar across the bottom of my screen.
I've got a few questions if anyone could answer them i would be appreciative.
Does it matter what resolution my MKV. files are, they vary quite allot.
Tomorrow will be my 3rd day of trying to get this to work; this is my plan.
Using eac3toGUI to convert the sound because most of my MKV's seem to be in DTS,
Then using TSmuxer to create the file.
Imgburn to burn to disc.
I have had some success with the following (but I'm new to this myself):
Use TsMuxer to convert to M2TS format (this is the only setting that isn't at default). I have been using Windows Media Player 11 to stream to the PS3 (set it up as a Media Server - look to the WMP help to set up). However, on a wireless connection I cannot get files to play for more than 10 seconds. You might have better luck with wired.
However, I have been able to burn to DVD+R using ImgBurn as long as I set the format to UDF version 2.5. If I do that, I can watch anything converted via TsMuxerGUI and the conversion takes little over a minute.
0.) Quick questions: What are you muxing to? What audio format are you converting to? What are the input video streams? When you add the .mkv to tsMuxer, do you see both the audio and the video stream? (This might be why you are getting video/no audio, no video/audio, etc.)
1.) I suggest muxing to .m2ts in tsMuxer. That way, you won't have to worry about resolution. The only drawback is that you won't be able to use chapters or subtitles.
2.) DTS audio won't play in an .m2ts file, so you're doing good by converting it with eac3to.
3.) Burning it to DVD should make the disc appear in the PS3 as a Data Disc - I'm not certain, though - which you should then be able to play just fine.
To mickey:
If you're streamingHD files, wireless is a bad idea. The data transfer rate just isn't high enough for wireless streaming. If you're going to stream HD content, you should probably hook the two together with an ethernet cable.
KajNrig, looks like I've had some interesting results recently. I had an mkv file that would not mux properly with TsMuxer, so I used MKV2VOB as a last ditch. It repaired the file and I ended up with mpeg output file. Out of curiosity more than anything else I tried playing it from the media server, and it worked. I will be trying some more files. I know that the original files I tested with, I tried using mkv2vob and didn't have any luck. Is the mpeg a different quality, does it put less demands on the connection? I suppose it depends on the original file. Maybe it was a lower quality file to begin with. However, it was HD so it was fine to watch. Just wondering whether the wireless truly is the problem in this case.
