At the moment this will only work on PS3s that can already play PS2 games, so that's if you only have a launch console. If you have a new console, they cannot play PS2 games, and seeing as Swap Magic is a PS2 disk it will not run on new consoles.
So for those of use who had to save up and ended up buying newer 40GB and 80GB consoles, we just have to wait until Sony realises that we want our PS3s able to play PS2 games and that since we already own PS2s sales wont increase because of it, so make the PS3 what it was supposed to be, the centre of our multimedia devices!

If you do have a ps3 that can run ps2 games, there is a very good tutorial on this forum that shows you how to get a ps2 harddrive attached with your ps3. Also, you can't torrent swap magic because the DVDs have indents on them that can't be replicated.
I have no Idea Why my Sig does not work, If you have a solution please message me

...and from where the $&^% you are going to run iso's from?
from a DVD or BD disc? Anyway........
i may be wrong but last time i checked a copied SM couldent boot to PS2 either.
if someone can send you a txt with LBA of the original disc to compare it with a one you have and rebuild it, that may solve you the problem.

SDF, I think he's talking about using Swap Magic to boot PS2 isos off of a thumb drive or hard drive or whatever. The thread (here at AD) is... http://forums.afterdawn.com/thread_view.cfm/743229
Dunno if you've seen it already or not, but that's the one, I think.
Anyway, Mata, you can't just burn the Swap Magic to a blank DVD and insert it into the PS3 and have it be read as a PS2 disc. If it was that easy, everybody would be burning PS2 isos right now and playing them instead of going out and buying the actual games.
If you want to use SM, you have to meet these criteria (at least for now):
1.) Buy the actual SM product, not just a burned copy of it.
2.) You have to have a backwards-compatible PS3. The original 60/20GB models use hardware emulation, but it supposedly works now for PAL systems that use software emulation, too.
3.) You have to have a flash drive. Pretty simple to get one of these.
...if I'm completely wrong about this, though, let me know what this "usbld" thing is. A link to the article or site, perhaps?

Okay... that's exactly the same thing as the one I linked to. So that makes it easier, I guess.
The only thing you really have to do is get an official copy of Swap Magic. You can find places to get the PAL version by checking the official SM site.
http://www.swapmagic3.com/Swap_Magic_Where_To_Buy.asp
There, linked it for you.
Again, just to make sure you get it, you can't burn Swap Magic onto a blank disc and expect the PS3 to read it as a PS2 disc. It just won't work. There's a special something-or-other that is pressed into PS2 discs when they're manufactured (as in when the actual discs are manufactured), and a burned disc doesn't have that. Swap Magic does, which is why the PS2/3 reads it as a PS2 disc.
So ALL you have to do is buy the official product. Then things will start working. Burned copy? No no no. Won't work. Official copy? Yes yes yes. Will work.

IF you find any UK sites claiming to have SM back in stock in a month and then at that time it doesnt order from abroad.
Cant remember which site I was checking in the UK to get mine but they kept updating the back in stock date, ended up having to get mine from Spain!

An update has been released for the USBloader. It now plays on all units that have backwards compatibility. It no longer matters if you have the Emotion Engine or not. Region no longer matters because it will work on PAL units as well. Swap Magic has always booted which leads me to believe that Sony may not have a way to patch this new discovery. I'm happy about it because I was actually about to install the swap switch. No need now. I have a 16 gig flash drive that I will just start putting ps2 isos on. I ordered my Swap Magic disc and I am curious as to how much PS2 homebrew I will be able to use. We kind of got the best of both worlds. The PS3 has not been cracked for homebrew, Sony gave us the ability to install linux, and now we can use PS2 homebrew.
