I'm thinking about getting swap magic but would i be able to play games like Rurouni Kenshin: Enjou! and other jp games ect Would that work or will it be region locked to NTSC-U games only? Also if i buy the 2 disk swapmagic (i am posed to get the 2 disk right?) can i give one to someone else?
1.) Well, Swap Magic is supposed to allow you to play all PS2/1 games, regardless of region, so I would assume that you would be able to play RRK, as well.
2.) One disc is a DVD specifically for DVD games (most PS2 games) and the other is a CD specifically for CD games (all PS1 and some PS2 games). You could give the CD one away to someone - like me, for instance :) - who wants to boot mostly PS1 isos.
3.) That looks like a perfectly good site to get it.
4.) Certain firmware as in PS3 firmware? Or Swap Magic version? As far as I know, the USBAdvance will work on any PS3 with 2.5x firmware, and I think the developer of it is pretty certain it'll play fine on firmware 2.60, as well. As far as SM version, you can use either v3.6 or v3.8. The SM 3.6 you linked to would work fine.
Q. CAN I PLAY PSX/PSONE BACK-UPS WITH THE SWAP MAGIC DISCS?
A. No. They are PS2 Boot Discs... for PSX/PSOne back-ups use the GameShark 2/Action Replay 2 original game discs to swap with and boot them up.
Thats from swap magic so does that mean i cant use ps1 iso's? or since games boot from usb that doesnt matter?
Huh. Well, I guess that's a no, then. But what I'm seeing is that one the SM site, if you scroll down a bit, you see a nice little message saying that "Swap Magic 3 support almost all SEGA ROMS, SNES ROMS, PS1 & PS2 Games!!"
...which, I assume, must indicate some sort of interaction with HDLoader or something. Dunno much about PS2homebrew myself.
