my firend has a ps3 which he had in his garage for almost a year and then when he fianlly opened the box and tried to play it the game didnt work, the console powers up and is fine but the blueray drive doesnt read the games. what is the problem, should he clean the lens by getting the maxell blueray lens cleaner or what, plz help! thanks in advance.
Sounds like the laser has gotten dirty or dusty, i would suggest try cleaning it before you take any other steps..im not sure about the maxwell thing ...
If it was just sitting there I doubt it would be a dirty lens that's the problem.
I don't know if the lenses are completely different that DVD lense/lasers (I KNOW the laser is of course), but on my portable DVD player which has the lens completely exposed when you're popping in/out a disc, it can have your fingers touch it all the time and it still works perfectly.
I guess the only way to find out though is pop out the drive, clean it with a soft cloth and some rubbing alcohol, then pop it back in and test.
not sure if i can do that because i've heard to nvr clean those lens with rubbing alcohol or cloth. maybe use the Maxwell lens cleaner, but if ur 100% sure than i can probably try that.
