Can I rip a DVD with DVD Shrink then use the Any Video Converter to convert it to and MP4 file for playback on my Ipod?
If yes, I'm new to DVD Shrink so what setting would I use or should I use AnyDVD?

If you already have AnyDVD then I would use it for your ripping. DVD Shrink is no longer updated and may have issues with some of the newer copy protection schemes. If you don't have AnyDVD yet and would like to stay with the free approach, then DVDFab HD Decrypter is also an excellent ripping program and is free.

So far to date I haven't had any problems with DVD Shrink. I notice some posts say to use AnyDVD then use DVD Shrink to make the file smaller. Is this really needed?
I really don't have much time for ripping so the less steps the better.
I'm looking into getting the DVDFab Platinum for everythign I need. My concern is will it shrink the files? If I have a movie that is originally on one disk will it compress it to fit one disk like DVD Shrink?

Yes, a transcoder/encoder is necessary after ripping a full disc to your HDD if you intend to burn it on a single layer disc.

Yes, DvdFab Platinum (payware) will rip, transcode, and burn. It's not the recommended method for those who are particular about the quality of their backups though.

I'm looking for the quality that I got from using DVD Shrink. Will it be less then that using the DvdFab Platinum (payware) rip, transcode, and burn process? If yes, can you suggest the best way to rip and burn to single layer disk and to also convert for use on my iPod?

Transcoding with DVD Shrink or DVDFab will probably produce similar results, but when it comes to movies that require very much compressin to fit on a single layer disk, then DVD Rebuilder is the way to go. It encodes as opposed to transcoding and offers far superior results to the others and it has a free version as well. When it comes to the burning to disk part, ImgBurn is definitely the preferred method.

Ok so you're now saying not to buy DVDFab Platinum and to use DVD Rebuilder to burn to single layer disks and then use ImgBurn to convert a dvd to MP4 format for my iPod?

For ones you wish to burn onto a single layer DVD, use DvdFab to rip, VobBlanker or FixVts to clean the files, then Dvd Rebuilder for higher compression; Dvd Shrink for lower compression, then burn with Imgburn.
Thanks for the clarification Cardinal :)

Every video I try to convert to ipod format say it has a css thing on it and can not be done with this version. I'm testing the DVD Fab Platinium with mobile option. Is this only due to me using the trial? I was told the trial version is the complete version for 30 days.

The other is from the .net and is a non-css version.
A ha! That was my problem. Thanks! So far I'm loving this DVDFab.
I've only used it for my ipod movies so far.
Now I'm going to try it on a dvd.
