I have came to the realization that flashing has gotten harder. Yes so have the things we have to do to get around what MS try's to block us out of, but I am talking about the software in particular. I can remember back in the good ole' days when I flashed sammy's. It was simple one line commands in dos basically. Then I went to do another Hitachi that I have been talking about on here lately. A 79FK in particular, and it all looked like jibberish, even though I had already sucessfully done one by myself. LOL I just couldnt remember how. So I know no one will really have the answer I am looking for. But why cant flashing just be a simple "one liner" process? I am fine with having to put a drive into mode b, and unlocking it, or using a passkey, or using an extractor or whatever the case may be, but when it comes to the actual flashing, why cant it be simplier?

use the 360 mod disc it doesnt require u to do all this silly unlock bs. boot to disc, enter sata port, follow onscreen prompts and drive is flashed in less than 2 mins. no reboots no unlocks nothing but booting to a disc.
and yes i agree with you on how it has gotten harder. everyone says but you can do it in windows now. bs i dont care cause dos doesnt bother me i work with unix based systems everyday so it is no problem. all the stories of JF freezing and stuff i have never heard as many stories about other methods of flashing. Also if you have to erase in windows and then boot into dos to flash..why not just do it all in dos anyway? try the mod disc man its reallyt convenient

You don't have to flash in DOS. It can be flashed using Jungle Flasher.

I can do a Ben-Q/Lite-ON in a few minutes (-the time it takes to dissemble the 360 and drive).

But you already answered your question. The reason why it isn't so simple is because of the extra steps MS has taken to protect the system.

It is the price you pay if you want to keep up with the modscene.

I dont think you understand what I mean. I know you can flash in windows, i have done it. What i mean is a year ago all you had to do was type in restore.bat and you were done. Now everything is windows based and is confusing as hell. direct drive dump, direct drive flash, ect. ect. ect. why cant i just use dos and type in one word? is it because people complained because the generation doing this is younger and dosn't understand dos? I just wish i didnt have to do 20 steps to do what used to take 1 or 2. they could at least make a one click does it all button!

I know you can flash in JF but that is if it isnt freezing up like i mentioned all the stories you hear about JF freezing you never heard all that with any other methods. Some ppl say they prefer to erase with JF and then flash in dos but to me why not just do it all in dos.

I think any dos method is much more stable than a windows method cause you have to worry about OS compatibility and all the hitches that go along with an OS. In dos it is simple like homesick said, issue a command and it does it.
I saw someone writing about restoring a samsung before flashing and i was like WTF i have never restored before relfashing. i have also seen some ppl mention having to unlock a samsung manually. again i was like WTF i have never had to do that.
So if they can make one method where you dont have to do all that stuff and the most complicated thing to do is boot into dos, to me thats very simple. But now windows method comes out and in my eyes its more hassle than using a dos method.
I do understand that some people cannot use dos or that they are intimidated by it but it is so stragiht forward and you are using commands that are predefined for what we are doing so it isnt like you can click the wrong button or something.

The quote was taken from stealthdf post about flashing in Jungle Flasher.

I would rather be able to do things 1 step at a time. I tend to not trust 1 click do it all option. I would rather do the steps myself to make sure everything is being done properly. To much of an added risk of something going wrong with a 1 click do it all option.

An example of this would be the new Jungle Flasher which has an option to auto-load the custom firmware. I would rather do it manualy myself so I know the proper firmware is being used.

But the reality is no one will ever agree on what the the best and fastest way to flash a drive is.

The mod disc is not a one click option. it guides you step by step and explains what you are doing along the way. the disc contains the fw on it so no other fw can get mixed up as there is only one version on the disc for each drive. as long as you tell it you have a samsung when you really have a sumsung you wont screw up. i would imagine it would be hard to choose the wrong drive type.
In the end it all comes to personal preference and to be honest you arent going to screw your drive up with any DOS method unless it is user error. While in JF there are so many issues with freezing i have just heard to many stories of people bricking drive but i also know most of those people were probably inexpereineced and the odds of that happening with one of us more experienced folks would be much less. i think some ppl get in a hurry a dont handle the driver issues and installing correctly.

I think allot of issues users have can be avoided if they new what they where doing. Some also take added steps that do not need to be done (like restoring a samsung/BenQ to original firmware before re-flashing with iXtreme).

I have used both methods DOS and Jungle Flasher and just prefer doing it all in Windows using Jungle Flasher. At first it took me a few tries to get everything set up properly in windows for Jungle Flasher to work. But ever since that I have done 10 to 15 without a hitch.

well i also use an old junk dell to flash with that i never use for anything else so booting into windows on that box is an extra step to me. my windows boxes are setup to do other things that i dont like to hasle with taking them down all the time to flash. But not everyone has old PC laying around.

I just flashed my hitachi 78fk, I first tried with Jungle Flasher following a Very good Tutorial withpictures and everything but no matter what I did I could not get the program to see my drive. Long story short(very long :P) I used the trick I posted to get into mode B and flashed with Firmware ToolBox, took 2 minutes. I dont know if it is just me but JF seems complicated for no reason. MAD RESPECT 2 Team Jungle for all their hard work though

I knew I wasn't alone in this "budlight" phenomenom!!!
Sometimes when budlight is mixed with precisely the right amount of Dr. McGilicuddy's things go hell in a handbasket. Flash included. Xbox360's don't drink much, but my laptop drinks beer all the time!!!
