i've read around on here tonight, but not finding the answer to my problem, i downloaded some movies, they play in real player, i have 10.5 version, but, i ask it to burn, sending the files from their folder to cd burn and it says it needs a cd, well, it's a dvd movie, i don't need to rip it, or so i belive,
i had dvdxcopy platinum, but we all know that went belly up and won't register for me, so, can't use that.
i don't know what ot download at this point, this all leads into other software having to be used with every thing else i read about for freeware, what can i use for a movie downloaded and does not have any decryption, i don't think help me find something for what i need please?

Hi,
most downloaded movies are of the avi file type (usually 700 Mb or less). To be dvd compliant, they need to be converted to dvd format. Dvd flick can do this for you (free, and can be found here at afterdawn, just do a search)
After conversion, you can convert the files to iso/image and burn with Imgburn (again free too, Imgburn can do the iso conversion and burn as well)
Hope this hels,
Jo

Thank you Bryston. i did download imgburn last night, but the part i don't understand is this, it wants an image and the file i have is on the c drive, there is no image, no iso file either.
so, as i understand it?? i need to do the convert first, then it will have an image to burn, and then that will get the movie on the dvd??
this is all new to me, this is why i ask, i want to do this right, i'll do that search now for it. and do i have to worry about spyware with freeware as a friend of mine is adamant on??
i've not had any problems like this before as i've been very careful about what i download.

Unless it is just your personal preference, there is no need to convert to ISO in order to burn with ImgBurn. Just burn the resulting VIDEO_TS folder from DVD Flick.
Another good free program for converting to DVD compliant files is AVStoDVD.

if i tell it to do just a img burn it reads it as no file, going into the foler the computer does not even know what to open it up with, i tell it to do this with just the dvd flick (although i have the option for img burn with the burn file) I have the dvd in the drive that i burn with and nothing??
looking at the files without these programs, one wants to be open with winrar, that would be the burn and img with dvdflick and the other file for img burn comes up with this. here are the pics of what img burn shows, there is a waning message in one of these, this mean my drive is crapped out??
i've cleaned the lens on it before with a laser cleaner, i don't know what else to do. help??
and i just noticed something i should have before, i have a dvd minus, the computer wants a dvd+
i guess that's my problem huh??
like i said i'm new to this and don't know what i'm doing with it all.

Warning message for D FAT32 is a recovery partition for your computer,i assume you have an HP or perhaps a dell,DO NOT delete that partition or remove it's contents unless you have imaging software that can back your whole hdd up
The DVD + that shows in the destination on left side of screenshot is the type of DVD Writer you have & is not what the computer is asking you for,to find out what format = (- or + media cd's or dvd's)you would need to type your model number & make into a websearch & look for specifications or just go to makers website to find the specs for your drive & what type of cd's & dvd's it can burn,by rights your drive will burn both

Yes i have an hp computer and they replaced the burner 6 months into that, it does take a + dvd and a - cd, i ended up picking up - dvd's. and haven't deleted a thing in partition, so, i don't know what that's all about??
i have windows live one care and it's due for saving documents, and i haven't been able to yet. i would have to assume that's not what that message means though, is it??
now if i get the + dvd's will this get the files burned??
i'm at a loss here and seems no matter what i do right now, it just will have another problem i can't get around.
it says d drive will not support single files in 4gb size, so, what do i do, save it to the c drive?? and then it will burn with the proper dvd???

I didn't mean to confuse the issue even further, ignore the error warning
Ignore live care it ain't got nout to do with your issue
Your burner will burn -DVD's
What i say next is for after you have fixed the burning issue so for now can be ignored:
All later hp's come with recovery partitions if you read your manual or look thru your all programs list you will find recovery options, this replaces the cd or dvd of windows that used to be supplied so by removing the contents of D you will in effect remove any chance of doing a reformat best you read up on the manual or what ever info you can find for your model of comp & how to recover your computer for later use.
Once your burning issue is solved in the all programs list under perhaps "pc help & tools" there will be a method where you can make 1 set of recovery DVD'S in case your recovery partition or hdd becomes unusable, i advise you to make a set once you have your original issue resolved, the hp recovery disk set creator will automate the job for you,my best advice is to invest in norton ghost or acronis if it's within your means, you will need to do web search of both to find out what they do needless to say a much better way of backing up data or whole drives

i'm thinking that message showed up because it asked if i want to delete the image once burned, meaning the dvdflick, and i said yes, it hasn't been burned yet because of complications here.
either that or it's when Microsoft messed up my system with their wonderful help, which i'll not use them again for help, they do it everytime and the entire computer gets everything reset back to factory condition and updates done again.
i haven't deleted anything myself out of the partitions. so, i 'm confused as to why that is happening, i do think my burner is wanting to kick the bucket on me, it's shown me that the last several times, and i went and got tie +dvd's anyway.
i'm not saying i get down on help, don't think that, but Evey time with microsoft techs, this takes place.

Your first paragraph of the quote above regarding deleting of the image imo should be set to not delete until the dvd has been burned successfully but that's just me,all it means is if you have to do another burn a new image will have to be created
Your 2nd paragraph appears to be using F8 or F10 on computer reboot which gives you your recovery options, this is where acronis true image or norton ghost come into play if you actually had one of them to use, since you don't your options are limited,if you did have one of them you could restore your comp back to the last recovery point which would mean 30mins later your back up & running & no need to update, however this has nothing to do with the main issue & is best left to look at & do research on after everything is sorted
Paragraph 3
Nothing is being deleted from the recovery partition of D,as you are working in partition C so you can relax, all that's happening is the software after a successful burn to dvd will delete the image of what it put onto the dvd,so if you wanted to do another burn of the same thing you'd need to create another image unless you set the burn program to not delete the created image, which will just save some time if you want to burn the same image again either now or at a later date, however lets say you have a bit of data you want to keep but also what to put it on dvd,you would need to be sure that the burn proggy doesn't delete the data so you set the program to not delete.
summary:
nothing is happening that you need be concerned about apart from fixing burn issue, your dvd can & does burn both types of media so you can use which ever dvd you like

okay, thank you.
Umm....also to note that i didn't build this through dvdflick before saving it to do just an iso burn for the movie, i guess i would have to do that, so starting this over. once i had a cd+ and the machine knew it and wouldn't except it for regular files and mp3's, this machine has always been that way though., once i put a cd-, it was happy and did what it was supposed to do.
plus.....ummmm.......as retarded as it sounds, i know someone else out there would have done something like this, i put too much on for one burn, won't all fit on the dvd, so maybe that's why the triangle messagee......i think?

Music cd's would require cd-r media, normal data like a jpeg or txt file could be burned to - or + so long as the burner supported both formats tho your burner will burn to both dvd-r & dvd+r it looks like it can't burn to cd+r,below is a link to the specs for your burner

*sigh* explanation of what yellow triangle signifies has already been stated, open "my computer" you can see it for yourself D is an HDD not a DVD

Thank you again ScorpNZ
And i did read what you said earlier, just haven't looked into it, hdd i know is hard drive disc and nothing to do with dics that burn.
I still question though, why is it with img burn, when i instruct dvdflick to just do the img burn and that's all i tell it to do and then pick up the file in img burn, it does not do a thing, I read the directions, made the folder they said to make, i just don't get it.
perhaps i should just use the dvdflick?? for the burn purpose if this thing ever does burn for me, been two whole days i'm trying and i'm frustrated to the nines. and don't understand why it has to fight me or what the heck i'm doing wrong.
*grumbles*
anyone??

Do you have the free version and it lets you do that?? i have that, i get the darn movie burned through dvdflick, but i choose a menu, since it was two episodes on this show, and now it won't play.
i'm ready to scream loud enough to disrupt the entire world right now, been two days of this and no results.
can you tell me if that's the free version you have?? and you can watch it on your dvd player, nothing to do with the computer at all and it plays??

****UPDATE*****
I press enter on the remote control of the dvd player and wella!!!!!
thought dvd flick it burned, no image could be burned through img burn, but that was just for the img burn only.
still not sure about that program, i followed directions, kept finding bad sectors, i don't know why, so, will someone please tell me, am i correct you first have to build the dvd through dvdflick.
i tried that in img burn and it would not do a thing for me.
as i said before, i tried img burn, i told it to just do an img burns through dvdflick and then opened up img burn and nothing, i followed directions, what am i doing wrong??

If you processed the files with DVD Flick, burn those files with ImgBurn. Do you have an icon for ImgBurn on your desktop?

Yes, i do, i never told dvdflick to do this, but i tell dvdflick to burn the 2 files, it will open up img burn itself and do the burn, but i'm finding problems with the burns, 2 of them at different intervals in the show it will stop playing and then won't continue, have to go to main menu and pick the next show.
and i'm experienceing some video loss when they switch scenes, not in all scenes, it's almost like they become hollow and blend into one another. some of these files i downloaded were hdtv, i think i read before someone had a problem with that with img burn.
so, that's the story when i do it now, i never open up img burn, dvdflick will and burn it and this is what's going on at this time. i don't know what to do to solve this. so far i've had one show that played all the way through, of course that was the one with video loss. at times.

No, it can't be opened with dvdshrink, tried that last night, these files don't have a tos folder and all that stuff they talk about. they are all avi videos and play fine on the computer. and i have no clue right now as to how to get it to be a tos folder to make this work.
what if i got rid of img burn and had it do this burn strictly with dvdflick, can that be done?

They end up in an iso file and you go quite deep into it with video ts
Ummm..............the reason i believe i wasn't getting the video ts at first, i discover today..........i'm in the wrong folder for the COMPLETED files
i save project in dvdflick, do a create dvd and iso picks it up automatically when it's done.
right now, they seem to work because i have the right files. now suppose i didn't want to burn it with img, i unchecked the choices, dvdflick still picking it up, any way around that, god forbid i have trouble with img in the future??
and yes, i'm a dumbass this week.
