Now i've been modding PS2s for 5 years and only recently decided to install the memory card exploit, problem is that I cant get the exploit save for the independence exploit onto my memory card.

The problem is that I load up AR Max(NOT the evo version by the way) and goto the memory manager and plug in my pen drive(I used a formatted 1GB walkman, a 2GB ipod configured for mass storage, an N95 8GB, a 4GB Kingston pen drive) and none show up in the memory manager.

What am i doing wrong?

Those devices may not be compatible. Not all usb devices are compatible.
Are they formatted as FAT32?

Do you have the exploit save named as .max file?

All were reformatted as fat32, i know that.
I saved it as exploit.max on the root of the drive with no other files.

The odd thing is the walkman does not charge while plugged in but the ipod does(Sony make walkman?). Anyways i also tried a psp today still not being detected in usb mode.

Im really at a loss here

That is strange.. Did you try both usb ports

Are you plugging the usb device in just before you open memory manager, or when you boot the ps2.

Before i boot the ps2 and when i see it isnt being detected i plug it out and in again.

Very odd stuff.

The strange is though that my AR MAX has no pen drive icon (Not even grayed out)

Its the non evo version btw

Oh ok I guess that explains it then.

It has no usb support in that version.

You would need a version that has usb support for it too work.

Another option is to have someone install fmcb 1.8 for you.
There are installers who only charge postage to them and back to install on your memory card.

I got fmcb to install by using a different method, i just burned it direct to cd and installed that way.

The trouble is I put uLaunch and ESR both to be installed in the INSTALL folder but all that was installed was just FMCB without any apps or elf loader etc.

When you made the cd, did you place the ESR, uLaunch in the install folder like this first.

Ok cool, multi install is fine. Just is in case you want to use it on different PS2

Ok well now then perhaps, start the FMCB Configurator by pressing START on your PS2 controller when you get to the fmcb 1.8 screen

From there check to make sure all the paths are correct in the OSDSYS options
You will be able to see if indeed the files are copied to your memory card.
If they are not, you can put them on a USB drive in a BOOT folder, that way you could then start uLe and copy them over again into the BOOT folder on the memory card.
You would use the configure E1 launch keys for files on USB drive

Just look at the tutorial to follow it, then make sure to save settings after.

Armax is not meant to run by ELF file. It has to be a CD or DVD

But also Armax does not work combined with fmcb

Use the Codebreaker elf that is patched for hdloader and CB_launch.elf

AR Max needs a hardware dongle too so its pointless to download it or use an elf.

Use codebreaker as he said.

Anyways i got me a 10 pack of DVD-Rs today so hopefully i can find myself some way to fix this.

@ sobhy2406

I forgot to mention that once you put the files on USB in a BOOT folder, just stick that in the PS2 and reboot, then the uLe should launch, if that is what you need to do to fix it.

Did you name BOOT Folder with uppercase. It is case sensitive.

You don't happen to have the newest ps2 do you?

It is in upper case but i noticed i put in LAUNCHELF.CNF aswell in the BOOT folder would that affect it? My ps2 is a fat SCPH-5003 version 9 so its not that its new or anything.

I have a strange feeling none of the drives are being detected for some reason(Shouldnt the psp be detected? Or the walkman?)

This stuff is wrecking my head.

Some people have said that did affect it too have the LAUNCHELF.CNF file in there.

I know my psp with CFW 5.00m33-6 is recognized right away in the PS2

I would maybe just try installing again all over.

What type of memory card are you using to install on?

Well its an original 8mb sony memory card, trying to install on a psp with CFW 5.00 M33-6 with a sony pro duo memory stick 4GB (Definitley not a fake, It was bought in a sony store). Although theres a LOT of content on the 4gb stick and when i put it on usb mode it just says please wait and never ends up working. Does it need to be completely blank for it to work?

Nope mine connects the minute the PS2 is turned on.

YOu just copy the BOOT Folder to the USB drive with the BOOT.ELF inside

Connect it too the PS2

Then I am sorry forgot too mention, I just thought maybe you had read the guides on the shortcut keys for fmcb.

So just press R1 as the PS2 boots up and the uLe should load

How big is your memory card and is full of files or blank?

I don't either with the latest firmware on the psp, it just autostarts once connected.

I have used 8GB and 4GB connected to my PS2, both loaded with files.

Ok lets backtrack now though first.

You say you installed fmcb 1.8, but the ELF files did not seem to copy.

So did you not get a screen like the following when installing

Does your Sony Browser look like this but of course says 1.8

If yes, then just press "START" on your PS2 Controller, go to OSD settings etc, then configure the E1 launch keys to your USB device, which will say /MASS
Then make sure to save the CNF file to /mc0

Then turn on your psp and plug it into the PS2, Turn on the PS2 and hit R1 as it loads up and it should find your BOOT.ELF

I am almost thinking it is better to just try installing again.
Remake the CD, make sure you followed this guide as well as the creating a CD guide and make sure to use fmcb 1.8b package download.

Is your pendrive formatted as FAT32

It just may not be compatible with the Armax or the PS2.

Note: The USB device MUST be inserted before running the disc!

Try another usb drive if you have one.

It explains all of this in the tutorial on installing fmcb 1.8 with Armax.
