Okay, if I'm in the wrong area.. I'm sorry. Kinda new here.
But here is my problem. I got a blu-ray burner recently and I want to archive most of the shows and stuff on discs. I would prefer, if possible to have the disc playable in the PS3 as well since they are all video files.
Now here is the main problem. Most of the videos do not play on the PS3 due to the nit picky nature of it's video player. So I want to convert the videos so that they will play *my 720p ones are already MP4s and still won't play*
So how can I convert these videos, lose as little quality as possible, and not have the videos double in size. Most of the ones I have tried to encode have gone from 200 something Megs to over 500 and these are SD shows.
Is there a setting I'm missing? A converter that will do it? Any help would be appreciated.
I use mkv2vob for the purpose of viewing video files on the ps3. These will play from disc or from the HD. I'm not sure if these will play from a burned BR disc but I don't see why they wouldn't.
What were you using to convert your videos? And what kind of videos do you have? That's the first step, because the PS3 can play a bunch of different filetypes.
For your .mp4s, check what the streams are. Sometimes the videos are encoded at settings that don't work well with the PS3. If you know they can be played by the PS3, then it's likely that they have one or two setting tweaks that freak out with the PS3.
You can use mkv2vob to do the conversion for you, but I honestly much prefer using MeGUI + Avisynth to do the re-encoding, and then using tsMuxer to remux it to .m2ts. It's a lengthy process, but it ensures that you get PS3-compatible videos. MeGUI also has a Bitrate calculator that lets you set the video bitrate to produce a certain filesize. Great for making sure that you keep the same filesize. That's one of the issues with mkv2vob - it's all automated, making it an easier program to use, but it also doesn't allow for great customization.
