my ps3 won't read my external HD

I bought an Western Digital 640 GB external hard drive. so I can put my hd movies on it to play on my ps3. I use a program called java ps3 media server. what that does is my ps3 can see my computer and is able to play my music and my movies from my computers HD. I was able to play mkv files threw that. but the network was to slow, so it lagged to much.

so I went to bestbuy today and bought a external hard drive. but the only way I was able to put those files on it was to convert the HD from Fat32 format to NTFS format. I did that and I was able to put those movies on there. after I did that, I plugged it into my ps3 and it won't recognize it.

so... any suggestions?

when the hd was formated to FAT32, when I tried to transfer the mkv files (which are about 4.5gb average) it said that the files were to big to transfer

FAT is the only format possible at the moment,so if you have files that are bigger than 4GB you have a few solutions that will help you.

1.Burn the file to a Dual Layer DVD
2.Stream the file to the PS3's internal HDD as it is not FAT and can hold files larger than 4GB.
3.Convert the file or split it to make it smallet.

Additionally, .mkv files won't play on the PS3. You'll need to remux it to a different container.

alrighty. I went back to bestbuy and exchanged a new one, because the hd was to big to convert back to FAT32. so I just slit the movies in have and converted them to mpeg. everything works great! thank you!!!
