My UK 60gb PS3 will sometimes read the blu ray disc but not always. I have to eject and reload 15+ times to get the PS3 to finally see the disc. These are all spotless and not scratched or dirty at all, some are practically brand new. It reads PS1 and PS2 games perfectly fine. Is it just a dirty laser or would I need to replace it? If I need to replace what type of laser would I get? Do I need a different one since its a 60gb model? It's out of warranty now so I can't get it replaced. I've fixed PS2 lasers and stuff so I know how to do it, although I know it will probably be harder with a PS3, and I've never opened one before. Thanks for any help you can give me, just a confirmation on what laser to buy would be a huge help.
You should definitely try cleaning the lens first. Use a cotton-swab and rubbing alcohol. That may fix your problem, and if it doesn't at least you've opened up the PS3 and figured out which lens you need.
I just replaced my laser too, and it was relatively simple. I'm sure you won't have any problems with it, just take your time. Good luck.
Thank you so much :D I should have thought of that first.
Dabbed a bit of whiskey on a cottenbud and cleaned it, now it always reads discs like new. I was suprised how much dust was inside, I always clean it aswell.
Thanks again, you saved me £50 :D
