I ran DVD Shrink and it read the first disc fine.

Put in a new disc and try to open it with DVD Shrink and it comes up with the previous disc listed instead.

Anyone know what is going on here and how to fix it?

Thanks

Don't worry about that. Open it anyway.

That's just it, it will come up with an error and not open it.

I know if I reboot my PC it will work fine again for the first disk I put in.

Is there some cache somewhere I can clear manually without having to reboot each time?

You didn't say anything about an error in your first post.
Exactly what is the error?

Figured it was implied with the post title... anyway here is what it says:

DVD Shrink encountered an error and cannot continue.

The same thing happens to me but I just exit the program and restart the program again. It doesn't happen all the time but enough to be annoying. It seems to happen more when I use a single dvd drive rather two drives for reading and burning. Also, with dvd decryptor, when I close the program, I get 3-5 error messages wirh sounds before it closes.Probably a minor settings user error somewhere in the program options.

How would you think that "DVD Shrink not reading new disc " would imply that you were receiving an error message?

You never have answered the question regarding the title of the movie giving you problems.

Exactly, Brother Ferg. I would almost bet that the movie in question is one that has encryption that dvd shrink cannot handle. If you give us the title of the movie you are trying to rip, we may be able to help you out much better.

2) process files (all) with fixvts
3) shrink files with dvd shrink, output as iso/image to HDD
4) burn iso/image file with IMgburn

Try cleaning the disc with Windex or clean your drive, if not, DVD Decrypter or Fab5 will work.

Are you running Vista or Vista64?

Xp,Vista 32 and 64 on 3 different machines. I just copied a movie on the vista 32 machine which has the combo dvd shrink - dvd decryptor. After completion and exiting of Dvd Decrypter, I got the
following errors:
" Failed to set data for"
" Failed to set DvdDecrypterPlayDVD on arrival"
5 more " Failed to set data for.
On the same machine I loaded dvd decrypter again, exited without doing anything and I went through the same sequence. I ran dvd decrypter on the xp without doing anything and it exited normally. I don't have the vista 64 on. Maybe I should delete the combo version and install seperately. My previous title is always the default download option. Both programs are indispensable and I probably have a settings option ticked opposite the way it should be. {:}

I believe DVD Decrypter is having conflicts with Windows Vista.
Right Click on Start button and choose 'Explorer>Program Files>Program Files X86>DVD Decrypter.
Right click on DVD Decrypter (Applications)
Right click and choose 'Compatibility' tab,
Select 'Run This program with: 'Windows XP service pack 2'.
This won't eliminate the pop up boxes completely during exiting, but will reduce it to about 3.

We still have not gotten the title of the movie you are trying to do.

I am not the original poster but in my case every previous title remains the default destination whether I do more than one during the same session or a few days later. For example, I copied the Guardian at h:/movies/theGuardian. The next time I copy a movie the destination will default to h:/movies/theguardian/the guardian.iso instead of h:/movies. I just go up one level at browse to enter h:/movies/the next new title. I would prefer all the movie iso's to be listed in h:/movies.
Then the next time the default destination would be h:/movies/(the previous)the nextnewtitle/nextnewtitle.iso
Since the original poster and I are newbies in this area and no other posters with this problem, I would assume the problem is in our settings or something peculiar to our systems or other program conflicts which we share. I will use my xp system next time to see if I get the same results.

I we were asking for the title so we could recomend a program. I believe the last time dvd decrypter was updated was a couple years before The Guardian came out. You never mentioned if you had used dvdfab or not, just dvd decrypter.

Try using dvdfab, and see if that works.

I generally use freedvd on a Vista machine whick works most of the time.If not, I then go to my xp machine and use dvd43 which also gets the job done most of the time when freedvd doesn't. Then I use DVD Fab 6 which I believe copied the Guardian after I used fixvts for the first time. I also used dvd fab for The Bourne Supremacy tonight because my two favorites didn't work. I also use some commercial freebies from giveawayoftheday.com
Then I use dvdshrink. Im most situations, freedvd-dvdshrink-dvddecryptor or imageburn------dvd43-dvdshrink-dvddecryptor or imageburn are so much faster than when I use DVD Fab. Of course, I am not that familiar with DVD Fab. DVDShrink works perfect in xp and also in vista except for a minor annoyance in destination.
In fact, I used wondershare dvd ripper from giveawayoftheday.com and it took 4 times as longs and made all the files vob which I know are mpeg2 files so I don't know whether I have to convert someway to get the ifo and bup files or just burn the file to dvd if the files fit. The trials and tribulations of being a newbie.{:} I am using the free dvdfab when necessary.

That program is one of many only ever recommended here and elsewhere by spammers so no surprise that it's inferior.
Haven't heard of freedvd but dvd43 is pants. DVD Shrink is good and everything but it can't cope with new films so DVDFab is the best choice here, at least you can still use DVD Shrink afterwards. Just make sure to check out Vobblanker (free) for cleaning up after DVDFab as DVDFab doesn't always provide clean enough rips ie it can cause problems later with enoding, burning or viewing (or all three). I always use Vobblanker after every disc ripped by DVDFab.

DVD Decrypter v3.5.4.0 (freeware)Luckily, there are several alternatives available to DVD Decrypter. Here are the most popular ones: DVDFab Decrypter (free DVD ripper); AnyDVD (excellent ...

Free DVD
Free DVD removes several protections from a DVD folder on the hard disk. It removes region code (RC), region code enhancement (RCE), analog copy protection, and user operation prohibitions (UOPs). You can use it to get a free DVD before you burn the DVD folder. It's only 44K.(taken from DVDFab website)

DVDFab HD Decrypter 6.0.1.0 (May 15, 2009)
DVDFab HD Decrypter is a simple version of DVDFab "DVD to DVD" and DVDFab "Blu-ray to Blu-ray". It copies entire DVD/Blu-ray movie to hard drive, and removes all the DVD protections (CSS, RC, RCE, APS, UOPs and Sony ARccOS) and part of Blu-ray protections (AACS, BD+, RC, UOPS and BD-Live) while copying.

Creaky,
FreeDVD also comes from DVD FAB. Go to their home page and look under free stuff. DVDFab HD decryper 6.0.1.0 is also free. Just plain old DVD Decryptor is free also.

I don't believe they update free dvd at all. If they dvd, I'm sure the file size would be much larger.

Soz, forgot to reply before. No, never heard of Free DVD. And i have to say, i don't understand what on earth it's purpose is; i read the description but am none the wiser, hence i don't see a need/use for it personally.

Well, no help so far. Not having trouble decrypting, etc. Just problem with DVD Shrink not correctly identifying a new disc after working with another. Unless I reboot my computer. Title doesn't matter. Discs are not scratched or dirty. Reistalling DVD Shrink doesn't help. Only rebooting does. So there must be a setting somewhere that I can clear manually so I don't have to reboot each time. Just wondering if anyone knew where to look. Thanks.
