hey guys,,got an 80gig ps3 and when power it up,,seems to be fine you think,,but no picture on power through the usb,,and when i go to hold the power button down to turn it off,,doesnt power off like normal,,hold the button for 5seconds then shuts right down,,weird,,not seen this before,,took out the harddrive,,still the same,,,anyone had this before,,any ideas maybe,,cheers

Id love to help but Im having a hard time understanding what your saying. So whats the problem will the ps3 turn on? or does the picture just not display. Can you play games on it? or won't it turn on at all? please explain.

when you turn it on,,it looks like it is on like normal,,but no picture,no sound,,and there is no power coming out of the usb plugs in the front,,i know because i plugged in the controller to connect and no power,,the put a game in and the disk is spinning but thats it,,and the green and blue lights are on,,,thats it

Well the AV cord and power cord could be screwed up, try borrowing cords from a friend and see if it works fine then.

not the cords,,,i wonder if its an update gone wrong,,this one has me good,,never seen this before,,the guy i got it from dosent remember what happened,,,everything powers up,,you feel the heat from the back and when i took apart the thing you can see it reading the disc,,and like i said before, when you go to turn off the ps3 you touch the power button you hear one beep then the green light flashes to tell you its shutting down,,not this thing touch and hold the button after 5 seconds shuts down right away,,,no beeps no flashing,,but still why no power out of the USB jacks,,,

ok i stripped it down again right to the motherboard,,then i took a heat gun and warmed up the gpu and the cpu,,just like you would for the xbox,,put new paste on,,and WOW,,it came to life,,i was beside myself,,found out that the firmware on it was 1.97,,worked great on component,,for about an hour,,until i switched it to HDMI and boom down she went,,the screen turned all kinds of nice colours,,so there is a problem with the gpu,,,going to keep trying,,cheers
