hey, my ps3 has the ylod (yellow light of doom or whatever you want to call it). I'm convinced its the hard drive because about a week or so before this happened (it happened about 2 weeks ago) my HDD decided to randomly tell me i had bad sectors and needed to be formatted. So, I formatted my ps3, and about a week after i formatted my randomly weird HDD, my ps3 shut off in the middle of a game of COD:WAW, i think its the HDD and i want to buy a new one in hopes of fixing it, but i was wondering if anyone else has a suggestion on what it might be? i'm still convinced its the HDD because it had messed up closely to my system breaking, that, or I am one unlucky person to have my HDD and another system component messing up as well, opinions are welcome, thanks =]

If its still under warranty get it swapped, if not try a new bigger HDD. Even if it doesn't work you can still send it in to be fixed and when it comes back you'll have a larger capacity HDD to put in it.

yea, i was planning on buying a new HDD to put in it, i bought my ps3 in Jan '08 and i bought an 80gb w/ backwards compatibility. my warranty ran out just a couple months ago, so that's out of the question, and after putting over 2000 dollars in games and peripherals, it would irk me to pay sony $150 dollars to fix it, in which i might not get a backwards-compatible ps3, which is why i payed the extra $100 when i bought it. i'm gonna take your advice and get a new, bigger, HDD, maybe a 120 or possibly 160. i can get a Seagate Momentus, which is the same type of HDD that came in my ps3 when i bought it, for around 50-60 USD. and even if it doesn't work, i can still use the HDD in my new computer i'm building =] but soon, i will buy a new HDD and i will see how that works, god i hope it does, i miss it already and its been 3 1/2 weeks lol
