Hello,
Have loved this site for ages and always come on to get help and solve my computer problems by reading the questions and answers on old threads. This time however, I can't seem to find the answer to a question posed many times.
I have used DVD Shrink and Nero for ages on several computers. Recently bought a new laptop with windows xp and an external dvd/rw, an LG Slim. Installed the last version of Shrink and 6.6.0.13 (i believe) of Nero Demo. I've had both of these install files for years and never any trouble until the other day. I formatted my hard drive and installed Shrink and Nero. Shrink will read the DVD, burn it to the HDD, but in the dropdown menu under Backup, I no longer have the option to Burn with Nero. The box is checked in the preferences menu, I have formatted the HDD again and again, played with the install order of Shrink and Nero, even found the 6.6.x.18 version of Nero. Nothing seems to work! Not sure where to begin, if it's a problem with my new DVD drive (all of the sudden) or a software issue. I get no error messages at all and everything else on the computer seems to function normally. It's worth noting that I also use from time to time and external HDD on the computer. Is it possible that they are conflicting somehow? Thanks everyone for your help and suggestions.

Which program did you install first?

I've tried both installing 1) Nero 2) DVD Shrink and vice versa after re-imaging my computer and neither way seems to click. FYI, The way I reimage my computer is from a backup partition on my hard drive.

Did you enable burning with Nero in Shrink's preferences?

It is a 'burner', right?

It is a 'burner' of course.
Is there a default path for Nero that DVD Shrink looks for.

@mc0107.....run a virus scan. I mentioned this in a another thread recently and a MALWARE virus was the culprit for the same trouble on my PC. What your describing is a characteristic of this viral intrusion. I could not burn with NERO either and NERO also failed to recognize my optical drives (DVD burners). I actually had to install all new actively aggressive virus software which has since removed and kept the MALWARE virus away successfully.

ImgBurn is definitely the way to go. Just click on the hyperlink in anyone's post to get the download.

thanks for pointing that out. hopefully indeed it will save me a step or two, though, again, i can't emphasize my delight in just being able to burn again. thanks again.
