My son has a PS3 which is about 9 months old. He has been playing Call of Duty 4 (World At War) regularly on it.
However, on Friday it suddenly stopped loading the game. The disc gets part way, the graphics of the title appear on the screen, then it goes blank and stops.
Initially, we thought it may be a disc problem, as all his other PS3 games load without a problem. But we took the disc and tried it on a friends PS3. It loaded no problem. So it's not the disc. My friend also had COD4, so we borrowed his disc, and tried this on my sons PS3. It wouldn't load his disc either.
So it seems for some reason my sons PS3 has developed a fault where it will not load this particular game.
Anyone have any ideas? Grumpy 13 year old to deal with!!!
I'll be honest, I've never heard of anything like this happening to just one game, so what I'm about to say is sort of a shot in the dark based off of computer gaming experience and my knowledge of the PS3, so, that said, here we go:
It might be the Game Data that is stored on your PS3 in the Game Data folder (to the top of the "Game" menu from your PS3's XMB (Main menu)).
You're best bet may be to delete the Game Data for CoD4 from the Game Data folder and then try and load the game. Upon loading the game, if successful, it will automatically re-install the game data and nothing should be lost, but just as extra assurance, use a USB thumbdrive to backup the Save Data from the Save Data folder before attempting to load CoD4.
If CoD won't load with the Game Data deleted, make sure you've backed up the Save File and then delete the original and try loading up the game. If it plays, that means you now have a working copy of CoD, but sadly you'll have to restart the game without your old save file.
I hope I've been of some help -- please post your findings here so that others can learn from your experience.
Hi
Thanks for your response. I have tried this now. I deleted the Game Data Utility for COD (and sorry I meant COD5 not COD4) for anyone I have confused. Then, tried the disc again, it automatically uploaded new software, then the same thing has happened.
It doesn't get past the 'COD loading' screen - it simply goes to a blank screem, then the PS3 needs to be reset to clear it.
My next step is to try and contact the COD makers and see if they have any ideas. It's weird as COD 4 - Modern Warfare does work, and COD 5 - World at War doesn't. So it's not like it's limited to the Game Maker either. Just a specific game.
On a side note, since my method failed to work, perhaps your PS3's OS is out-dated or a currupted version (for example, if power flickered during one of the PS3's updates, that could do it). Chances are the game makers will encourage you to check and see if your PS3 has any available software updates, but just in case you can't get in touch with them or, for some reason, they can't solve the problem, then perhaps give updating the PS3 a try. I mean, it doesn't hurt, it's free, and you're going to have to to update sooner or later anyway, lol.
Wow that is very weird. I have never had that happen to a certain disc before. Please update us.
When stuff goes haywire with mine i just unplug and plug back in. Fixes it everytime haha
Good Luck
