have a question this is something that i probably did wrong but when my ps3 signs in my laptop loses the internet but i also have my wii going through the same router and it doesn't happen with it if it helps everything is wireless except the ps3 it is plugged into the router through a wired connection just wondering why when the ps3 is online nothing else can be
You're laptop and PS3 are sharing a local IP address. There are a couple of ways to fix this.
Fix it via the PS3:
Make sure the laptop is on and online, but that the PS3 is offline. Now re-configure all of your internet settings as you did before, and this time it should assign a different IP to your PS3.
Fix it via the laptop:
Make sure you PS3 is online and signed into the playstation network. Now expand the laptops notification area (the little icon area near the clock) untill your internet connection icon is visible (this will either be a Local Area Connection icon or a Wireless Internet Connection icon). Right click on that icon and choose "Repair" from the list. This should re-assign your laptop with a new IP address.
If that doesn't fix it. Ask whoever setup your router (probably a relative) to disable MAC address filtering if it's enabled, as well as disable IP address range limiting, if it's enabled.
That should do it!

I wouldn't really know how to guide you through a belkin router... I'm familiar with Linksys, Motorola, Netgear, and 2Wire, but that's about it, sorry.
It would help to set the PS3 to a Static IP. There are several walk throughs in the net. Like Vicious, I am unfamiliar with your router and cant offer any help with your router set up. The PS3 Static IP setup is easy. Search your Router using ( 192.168.1.1 ). You will be able to see what router settings are avalible.
It is up to you. The first three groups of #s will stay the same, the last group is up to you. ###.###.###.???
First, Check your routers options. Will it let you dedicate a static IP to a device. Access your router by typing 192.168.1.1 into your PC's Web Search bar. Most Routers are default 192.168.1.1 . Read some walk throughs like this one http://www.pregamelobby.com/forum/sony-r...t-your-ps3.html . Get familiar with what you are trying to do. I was in your shoes a couple of years ago. This walkthrough helped a lot.
If you are just having a problem with the PS3 kicking everything else off line for a few seconds, I have that problem too. I could get rid of it but it does not bother me. I am using Windows Media Player 11 as my Media Server and I have Media Serve Enabled on the PS3. It Kicks the PC Net off line every time I start the PS3 up. As soon as the PC is kicked off of the net, I can get right back on. If I disable Media servers on PS3, it will not kick the PC off of the Net.
Do a Search for NAT Type 2 Belkin Router, you will proably find a walk through (step by step) for setting you Router and PS3 up. Good Luck
If typing in 192.168.1.1 into your internet browser's address bar does NOT take you to your router, you can get the address by following these simple steps.
1) Open Command Prompt ("cmd" in the Run Menu, or Start>Programs>Accessories>Command Prompt)
2) Type "ipconfig" (without the quotes) into command prompt and press enter.
3) Command prompt will generate some data for you, look for the line that reads: "Default Gateway: ###.###.###.###" -- The number given for Default Gateway is your Router's IP address.
My Router, for example, is 192.168.1.254 -- not the typical 192.168.1.1 -- if I had not known how to find the default gateway address, odds are I'd have ended up digging around the internet for my router model's default IP address. But luckily for me, these 3 easy steps saved me a bunch of time.
Yep, i failed to mention that you have to enter http://192.168.1.1 to get into most routers. Searched for a bit, Seams that a lot of Belkin routers are 192.168.2.1
