Okay, i want to first start this off by saying im not totally a newb to backing up dvd's and what not. I used to do it religiously a few years back, but then took a short break. Now im up to the task again, but a few barriers now seem to stand in my way. The two programs i have used and still used is DVD shrink and decryptor, i have both of the newer versions. Right now im trying to back up requim for a dream, and it appears to have a copy right protection on it. I cant back-it up in shrink because i get that pesky error message. So any way i have googled around and read a few things here at AD, but i still cant figure it out. I tried opening decryptor and tweaking its settings to "brute force" and clicking all the boxes to all break protections. However it still isnt working to well. All i really want is to go into shrink, hit rename, just drag the movie file and burn that, regardless of extras and main menu. Also another problem i am getting is the files i am recieving from decryptor and shrink. I get files in the VIDEO_TS with .vob and .ifo. Im not realy sure how to use these files, and couldnt find much about them on google. I used decryptor and backed up a disc to my computer making an iso file. But that iso file only opens as a zip file, and when i open the zip file i get about 20 or so of those .vob and other filenames once again. Im realy just lost, and basically just want to see if there is an easy way to get around this copy right pritection and these pesky and weird files. Sorry for this long message, oh and here is just a picture of what im talking about.

DVD Shrink nor DVD Decrypter are no longer updated. You need to switch to an updated ripping program such as DVDFab or AnyDVD.

To add a little something to Cardinal Ferg's sagely advice

From 1bonehead

You have found a newer movie that shrink cannot handle.Soooooo

1) decrypt to HDD with dvdfab HD (free version) Or use paid for version
2) process files (all) with fixvts
3) shrink files with dvd shrink, output as iso/image to HDD
4) burn iso/image file with IMgburn

all programs are free

Imgburn, free from
http://www.imgburn.com

fixvts, free from

It's not just Sony. As it has been about 5yrs since either dvd decrypter or dvd shrink has been updated, there are quite a few movies from different studios that either of those 2 programs can no longer decrypt.

The regulars are spot on. While both Dvd Decrypter and Dvd Shrink have thier uses, Dvd Ripping should be left to the programs that are updated to keep up with all the newer encryptions.

The OP was able to resolve the issue by using an updated ripper, DvdFab.
