My PS3 was just fine and dandy just earlier. Besides that, the first thing I did was download the new update that was up. After I did that, I just put in Dead Space to play since I didn't get to for a good week (good game by the way).
While I was playing the game, I just wanted to go by that little store in the game to drop off items, buy stuff, etc and just headed back to where I was supposed to go. I dunno if I went the right way or just made a bad turn, but I opened up the door to an area and all it was, was just outer space; no floor, no nothing and I kinda just fell for like 1 second and I was just walking mid-air with the sound effects of what it usually be when you're in zero gravity. I still had air, so no-timer which was really odd. Then I just took a couple of steps and just fell for a couple of more seconds and died. The screen started to have those transitions to go back to I think the last save you were at, but as it was just doing that, it stopped.
I went up to my PS3 held the power button to do a reset, it beeped once as usual and blinked as it was "turning off"......it wasn't it just sat there, just blinking so I instead turned off by the switch in the back.
Turned it back on and everything was fine, but my disc wasn't reading anymore. I tried every other disc (Blu-Ray, other games, DVDs, etc) and nothing.
So what do I do now? I know someone mentioned something about doing a HDD restore/backup when this happens. Can someone walk me through this?
Someone did mention that the Blu-Ray drive just died or a lenslock over at GameFaqs when I asked about it.
Other than that, it's really strange since I had no problems at all whatsoever. I dunno if it's anything to do with it, but I remember i think just last week my younger sister was watching Taken on Blu-Ray with 2 friends and knowing her, always tries to see something funny and pauses, then unpauses to get her friends to laugh over and over.
I got mad and talked to her about it. I just remembered this and I'm not sure if did damage to the Blu-Ray drive this way.
Hey MeanBob, it sounds like your blu-ray drive is dying or dead. If you still want to try and do your backup and restore then follow this link from step 3 to 5 then use the backup utility to format your drive, then restore it with step 10.
On a side note, it is unlikely that your sister caused any harm to it. Sometimes things like this just happen.
