(i'm half awake, sorry if wrong)
I "think" rzx15 is asking what version of OFFICIAL Firmware are you using that's already on the PSP (i wouldn't know answer to custom firmware question,,, expecting that datel battery service tool today, so i'm looking forward to answer, too :P)
(i'm way behind in homebrew community, last thing i did was do the lumines trick to see a hello world,,, before that it was the GTA:LCS fanjita stuff, but something happened to that psp)
Why do the nicknames here have to be so short...
:P

Go to "System Settings" and then "System Information". Your firmware version should be there.

Yes, that might be a good idea. Anyway, did your psp come with 4.01 or did you upgrade it to 4.01? If so, what did you upgrade it from?

Ehm...no you didn't, and the ISO folder won't be of any use to you without CFW. If your PSP came with 4.01 then you have an un-hackable motherboard and the closest you will get is 5.50 GEN-A, so upgrade to 5.03 and then use ChickHEN R2 to upgrade.

But what firmware did you have before upgrading? Basically, what firmware did the PSP come with?
ChickHEN R2 is a homebrew enabler for the PSP. It isn't CFW (not yet at least) but you can run homebrew with it (we will use a homebrew program to flash the PSP to custom firmware, but we need to make sure that your PSP supports this, by verifying your PSP's ORIGINAL firmware version).
You can get ChickHEN R2 here. Read the README file to find out how to use it. When you are on 5.03 HEN, reply back here (or if you are having problems).
EDIT: Oh, and you'll need OFW 5.03 to run ChickHEN R2. Get that here. Copy EBOOT.PBP to ms0:/PSP/GAME, then run the update from XMB < Game < Memory Stick

OK, then you're probably good to go. Upgrade to 5.03 and try to get ChickHEN running.

*Sigh* Please leave the CAPS off. Go to the link in my post (PSPHacks). Then, click the button that says DOWNLOAD. Then, extract the files from PSP_503_FW_UPDATE.rar. There should be a file in the extracted folder called EBOOT.PBP. Right click the file and select "Copy". Then, hook up your PSP to USB mode. ms0 is the root of the Memory stick. There should be a folder called PSP on the memory stick. Go inside this folder, then go inside the folder GAME. Right-click anywhere inside the folder and select "Paste". Then, unplug the PSP, and go to Game < Memory Stick. The update should be there. Run it.

It's not CFW. It's OFW that you NEED to update to in order to make the CFW enabler work. It dosen't matter where you download it to.
