Okay, I recently bought a PS2 from a good friend, just a regular black flat one, no 'modchip' in it.
I also wanted to buy his FF12, as I lost mine, but he wasn't selling his, so I was thinking about borrowing it, making a copy of it and getting it back to him. I have Alcohol 120% already, what I'm wondering, is if I can get a fairly detailed description on what to do, to Copy the game to a separate disk (what kind - DVD/CD?) and how to play it on my PS2...
Thanks.

You either need a modchip, memor32,Swap Magic or install fmcb 1.8 to your PS2 to be able to play PS2 backups on it.
There are many tutorials and threads on this topic of how to play backups on a PS2.
Just do a search or check the sticky's.

You can use the free imgburn to create the iso of the game & burn it,if you have more than one game you can copy them to the hdd then queue them in imgburn

The cheapest method is too install fmcb 1.8 by having someone install for you.
There are free install services, but the forums that hold this service are still down for another day or so.
It is the psx-scene forums.
The fmcb 1.8 tutorials are here- link
Or if you have "007 Agent under Fire" PS2 Original disk or another disk, that has many ELF files on it you can install fmcb 1.8 that way.
http://forums.sksapps.com/tutorials/7888...-boot-disk.html - you will have to register to see the whole thread.

Thanks, I'll get back to you on what happens.
Edit: Okay, I'm going through the Tutorial, it says
Requirements
What you need:
A Boot method for the installer { How-to Guides }
A Memory Card with minimal 3.5MB free
A PS2
A USB stick
The Free McBoot Noobie Package Updated 3/31/09
Now I downloaded the Noobie package, I got my usb stick, my PS2 obviously, and the Memory Card with 3.5MB free...
The first thing I really need is a Boot method for the installer, What does that mean? Do I do the tutorial called "Booting Installer using a Burned CD" ?

The Boot method is: a modchip, swap magic, armax, codebreaker, gameshark etc.
Or as I said above if you have an Original PS2 game like "Agent under fire, Socom Navy Seals, Splinter Cell, A demo disk, then you can follow the tutorial on "How to turn a PS2 disk into a Swap or Boot disk'
Original post is here - http://www.1emulation.com/forums/index.php?showtopic=28441
Read that tutorial. Basically you are swapping on of the ELF files on the PS2 disk for uLe, and then you can install fmcb 1.8 yourself.

1) Will "Need For Speed: Underground" work? Since its an original.
2) I'm sorry I never mentioned, this kind of stuff confuses me, That tutorial is confusing me (I got the duct tape and tissue part done from step one). This here is like trying to teach a retard rocket science.
In part 2, says I need:
Original PS2 game disc
Apache v 1.1 newer version will not work
Dvd Decrypter or other dvd burning soft capable or raw write
Launch.elf v 4.21
I got the disc, will Alcohol 120% work? And how do I get Apache v 1.1 and Launch.elf v 4.21?
Them two are what really got me scrambled... I just read some more into it, I don't get anything past Part one... Sorry, if you don't feel like dealing with this you don't have to, I just don't understand this. I pretty much need a - literally - step by step walk through of how to do every thing...

You will find Apache 1.1 here - link
Ulaunch.elf 4.39 here - link
I don't think need for speed will work. It has to have multiple ELF files on or use the NTGUI.ELF which is the network.
Here is an example when you open the ISO image with Apache 1.1 - otherwise put your PS2 disc in pc , then go to 'My Computer' and explore the disk.
Read through that thread I posted on sksapps.com, as that is the only thread I know of where people have posted replys as to what games work.

EDIT - the psx forums are back up now, so you can check the 'Free Install services' if you wish

With the Free Service, all I do is send my Memory Card to them, they install fmcb, they send it back, and I can plug it into my PS2 and start playing my backup disk?
With all of that done, I can play 'any' backup disk now?
Also, through doing all of this, how could I use cheats on the backup let alone an original? Is there a way to install a cheating thing with fmcb or something, like if I don't have a Gameshark or w/e...

Yes that is it basically.
You need to first patch any ISO images you have with esr disc patcher
Then burn the ISO image with imgburn on dvd-r at 4x
I use Codebreaker 10.elf and Codebreaker 9.2 elf for playing backups.
The cheats on the CB10.elf also work on Original Disks.
This thread here explains it a bit. Basically the Codebreaker is patched too work with hddloader, but it also works with ESR, etc.
How it works is with a file called CB_launch.elf
You can find the Codebreaker elf files in my profile under "my folder"

Now should I get both 10.0 and 9.2 as well since I'm going to play backups and originals?
And to use them, Do I put them to a USB and transfer to Memory Card while in the PS2?
Edit: I mean how do I use them, the way I said or something else? I've never used Codebreaker (let alone Gameshark besides for Gameboy...)

I use a Datel 64mb memory card, so I load them both off my memory card.
The only reason I use the 9.2 is too be able to add the unofficial Day 1 files.
But using fmcb 1.8, you can load them from usb device also, to save memory card space.
Just make sure to place the CB_launch.ELF in mc0/BOOT or USB/BOOT folder, either one.
When you first launch Codebreaker, go to options and go to turn disk tray to off.

So, after all this is said, My Checklist...
1) Send Memory Card to PSX person.
2) Recieve Memory Card from PSX person.
3) Download 'esr disc patcher' and use on my disc image I made.
4) Burn patched disc image to new dvd-r with imgburn at 4x speed (to prevent error I'm guessing?
5) Download Codebreaker 10.elf
6) With now having fcmb 1.8 installed to my Memory Card, I just put my Cb10.elf into my USB - into USB/BOOT
7) When opening CB for first time, go to Options, and turn off Disc Tray
Anything else/wrong? Just trying to do things right, sorry, lol

Yes thats correct.
Just the one step you forgot
Download the CB_launch.ELF and place it in a folder named 'BOOT' either on the Memory card, or on the USB drive.

The CB10.ELF will just go on your USB in the root of the drive
For example if your USB drive is G:/ on your computer, then just place it there on drive. It does not need to go in a folder.

Also, one more thing, what kind of USB device should I use? I have SanDisk Cruzer Contour 8GB, but I cant find a BOOT folder or whatnot... Here's a picture of what I see.

In the left hand column of your picture, do you see "make new folder"
Click on that, then rename folder to 'BOOT' all uppercase
To transfer files to memory card, such as the CB10.ELF, you will use the ulaunch.elf
Ulaunch.elf is basically a 'windows explorer' like on your pc, but for the PS2
You would load uLE either in your Sony Browser once you have fmcb, or by pressing R1 on the controller as you boot up your PS2.
You still need to copy CB10.elf to your USB
Then open 'Filebrowser' on uLe
Then choose Mass/
Then highlight your CB10.elf
Then click R1 on controller, choose Copy
Then hit Triangle
Go to mc0/
Then chooose folder BOOT or APPS
Then click on R1 again, choose Paste
Here is a tutorial on uLE - link
Also here keyboard shortcuts for fmcb 1.8
These files can also be launched during boot-up with the button presses of the default CNF:
BOOT.ELF ( R1)
ESR.ELF ( R2)
HDLOADER.ELF ( L1)
SMS.ELF ( L2)
FMCB Configurator ( START)
You can Add more applications to the Sony Browser by using the 'FCMB configurator'

Alright, starting to understand a bit more.
Now, can I do the CB10.elf without fcmb or no? Like can I cheat while I'm waiting on Memory Card? (Haven't gotten an envelope yet, lol) I have CB stuff on USB, Here's pics of how I have. (I hope I did it right...)
