Look no further than Ritek G04 media. They can be had for around a buck apiece online and are of superior quality :)
There're plenty of posts in this forum as to the best places to get them depending on what country you live in.

I'll second the suggestion for the Riteks. The only time I use anything else anymore is when I order too late and need some right now, and then I buy Verbatim DataLifePlus , which I can get for a decent price locally.

ok so first of all is ritek only available to be purchased online? i have seen these discs sold at many places online and they seem to be a cheap price so does that mean the quality is not good? how would they compare with maxell or memorex?

I can't really compare them to Maxell as I've seen good and bad reviews for Maxell, but they are a lot better than Memorex. From what I understand there are regular stores that carry them, but there aren't any in my area.
Personally I've burned around 250 Ritek G04s and had no problems and if you do some searching here you'll see that they are what most of the most experienced members recommend.

I personally get the RiDATA G04's from either newegg.com or supermediastore.com and have had 100% success with them, but as long as they have the G04 dye you should be in good shape.

As a general rule, yes, but that's the beauty of Ritek - high quality at a reasonable price :)

The only ones I know of test the data after the disc has been burned.

I'd personally go for the Ritek Aritas listed on that site. They list the it as being RICOHJPNR01 which is very good stuff that has given me great results.
I've heard good and bad about Maxell but not having ever used them myself I can't say personally. The "generic maxell code" ones you listed would worry me for the simple reason that they cost the same as the Princos on that site - Princos are notoriously crappy media.
I see they sell discs by the single or ten pack so if you want to be daring and try the generic Maxells I'd highly recommend getting no more than ten for testing purposes and, after burning, check them for errors, artifacting and compatability with all your equipment before you buy more.

Damn,
Hate to hear about Memorex. I recently bought a 100 pack of DVD+R's of Memorex. I also have been using out of a 25 pack of Memorex DVD+RW's. I figure that I will reuse the RW's after my son gets older and I don't need "Bob the Builder" or "Thomas the Train" anymore.
I need to get a pack of Ritek for my Concert DVD Backups. Where are they a buck each?
I have used FugiFilm and TDK already, how do they rate with you guys/gals?
------------
I wrote this earlier on a different topic.
I have decided to take back an unopened 100 pack of Memorex DVD+R and order a pack of Ritek.
The problem is that I can not find "Ritek DVD+R G04" on either newegg.com or meritline.com.
What about Verbatim Datalifeplus that I have seen listed?

The RITEK G04 are available at supermediastore.com for .78 a piece in packs of 100 with free shipping. I have had no problem with ULTRA DVD+R's, TDK's, VERBATIM, and a five-pack of MEMOREX's. I understand though you have to be careful with MEMOREX's because you can't be sure who made them.

DVD Info Pro can scan for read errors or if you have a LiteOn burner you can use KProbe. There are others I can't remember right now (not enough coffee yet). A rough method is to do a transfer rate test on your finished disc because the drive will usually slow down when it encounters read errors, but like I said this is a rough estimate of quality :)

TDK and Memorex buy from different manufacturers so you never know what you're getting - some have been RICOHJPN which are very good and others have been CMC which is utter garbage.
Verbatim DataLife Plus have been talked about highly around here, although they are quite pricey.

I just talked to Supermediastore.com on the phone. They said that they only have DVD G04's as A DVD-R, not as a DVD+R.
Anybody know any different here?
If not, what would be the best DVD+R for a buck each or less?

Hi,
I personally feel that Memorex has great discs. I have never had a problem so far with them. Also,
right now I just bought DVD+RW 4X 10 Pack for $19.99 they are regularly $29.99 so that is a great deal.
That was online at eMemorex.com
Cheers,
Rachel

In Australia avoid the cheap DVD+R from Strathfield Car Radio at AUS$1.68 each. They are rubbish and over 50% will skip and give errors after about 45 min into a movie.
I use either TEAC DVD+R from Kmart (about $25 per 10) or RICOH (made by RITEK) at $2.40 each. Both have never given any problems, other than user generated mistakes.
