I am considering purchasing CCE basic as the price looks quite attractive($59). I have also seen a new tool called DVDrebuilder (beta) that works in conjunction with CCE (basic & sp) which basically converts CCE basic into a "one click back-up programme"
Has anyone used this encoder? Are the results using CCE basic really THAT better than the existing Transcoder tools?
Any input most welcome.

Just an update.
I purchased CCE basic today $58 (£32) and ran it with DVD rebuilder. It bascially turned CCE into a genuine "One click encoder". Yes!! one click of a button and it was off on its way. It was quite amazing !! I genuinely feel that this is probably the ultimate backup solution for me. The whole process from ripping took 4 1/2 hours (Silence of the lambs - full disk)..yes i know that many out here may cringe at that length of time, but if you are genuinely concerned with output quality then this method may be for you. The quality of output was outstanding. The process seems to leave extras unmolested & just re-encodes the main movie, the output file produced had all existing extras & menus intact & fully functional.
Alas poor Pinnacle, it served me well!!
I intend to run a few dvd's after removing extras, via DVDstripper, to see how rebuilder reacts to that method.
I have reading up on DVD rebuilder (on doom9, it seems to be the authors hideout) and there are a lot of users who are having problems with it, but the author seems to react quickly. DVD rebuilder is currently at beta and it seems to be updated every day!!. I think I may have been very lucky, although the author seemed very keen to recommend CCE basic (Although it can also operate with CCE sp, Rejig and others will be added according to the author)
The latest version of Rebuilder can be downloaded from :- (It is freeware)
http://www.dvd.box.sk/index.php?pid=dvdr_soft&prj=info&pol=0&rid=7882
Rebuilder also needs Avisynth (2.5) DVD2avi(Donald Graft version) & DVDdecrypter to work. Its all explained in the DVD rebuilder "readme" embedded within the app and its very easy to understand for beginners.
Give it a try, it may be for you. I will report back when I have condcuted more tests.

This program produces the best back-ups I have ever had (If you do not have a problem sacrificing speed for quality)... I would highly recommend to anyone to giving this program a try....

Thanks for "bumping" this message back on top. Perhaps this thread "deserves" to be back on top becuase this GENUINE" one click backup method is far superior to anything else available out there at the moment.
I have experimented with using other tools IE DVDstripper, vobblanker prior to running through DVDrebuilder and am having all kinds of problems maintaining a working DVD structure. Hence I am now using this method purely for "Movie only" or "Full disk" where I am having 100% success rate.

And for anyone who would like to see how easy it is, just check out the Guides section for my DVD Rebuilder guide. Or just click the link in my signature. ;)
A week ago I would have called it the only method I'd use, but after some tests I ran earlier this week, I have to hold off on that until I finish more complete tests with more compressors. I can say, however, that I have yet to see a disc compressed with DVD Shrink where I can't spot, at one point or another, that it's been compressed. With DVD Rebuilder and CCE I've seen a lot of them.

Thanks to this thread and Afterdawn I have looked into this last week and I have used Rebuilder with CCE several times now: this is absolutely the best way of backing up your DVD's. It is even very easy to do. It's slow but the quality - even with quite a bit of compression - is unbeatable.

I'm glad to see another CCE convert. ;) DVD Rebuilder making it so easy to use and the Basic version being so cheap, I hope more people give it a try.

In order to strip away extras from the original movie. I'd recommed using IFOEdit. With this tools I can discard whatever extras (trailers, languages, etc) I don't want. Then I use DVD Rebuilder.
At the beginnig I had some troubles Using DVDRebuilder (I used CCE Basic 2.69), after I switched to CCE SP 2.67+, things seem to go well.

Just to make sure anyone reading this thread understands, if you're going to use a trial version of CCE, make sure it's the SP version or else you won't get more than 3 minutes for each segment of the movie DVD-RB breaks the movie into. That's just a limit on the trial version. If you use the CCE SP trial you'll get a watermark on the video, but it will encode as long as you want.

Perhaps, but I've been looking over old threads by others that came before but got neglected. I caught a couple of Vurbals and now yours. It's all part of the same history and it belongs together.
Hmmm!

Vurbal has finished part of his DVDremake guide and it should be up soon. I've asked him to start a new thread so that all of us can add our individual recipes for a particular film.
