Doesn't Sony have movie rentals and other online ways of makeing money threw there service?What I'm saying is They will make more money from online items then they ever will on games,even the hackers will buy,I think that microsoft is seeing such a profit from online ,that's why they havaen't went to any effort trying to stop to firmware hack.You could say the 79 version was a attempt,But a lame attempt.They aren't even banning there account's just the console.I know atleast 10 people that have bought a xbox just cause you can backup your games.I could see sony doing the same.It's just my opinion tho.

Speaking of that, I was just speaking with a guy who does the Infectus chips, and I will know if the PS3 chip is a reality very shortly. I think it will be - I dont think any console is un-hackable.

Yeah I agree - the only country that no one has anything bad to say about it.

Padsta and Marcusita, I am not a moderator and I not claiming to be but enough is enough guys.
There is absolutely no need for personal attacks here. Padsta, I realise you probably don't care but calling someone an idiot is a sure fire way to get banned from Afterdawn.
I said earlier that I assumed you would be in the more mature category but I must say that it takes a more mature person to turn away from an argument. It looks like you are proving my earlier statement wrong.
Can we please leave it at that and get back to topic? Just in case we forgot this thread is about PS3 modding. I really don't want to see this thread closed because of a disagreement.

after being a firm supporter of Sonys playstation family since the 90's i have now gone over to the dark side purely because Xbox plays back ups. and also because i hear some game coverage on the PS3 isnt going to be that good in comparison to the xbox(eg. the later grand theft auto VI series). but why do you ask?

1) this is damn business
2) they will do it secretly so that nobody will know they done it.

atleast they make SOME money dont they.
i am a living example that sony are losing (once) loyal customers ^^
now if there was a modchip out for the PS3 then there would be an extra £300 in sonys pocket right now and £-300 in microsoft's.
and i am sure that there are thousands of people like me who have gone with the 360 purely because of this,
but remember if the console doesnt sell, then the games wont sell,
BUT
if they releast a hackable firmware (or something along those lines)
then atleast the console will sell even though the games wont and i'm pretty sure that sony will still make tons of money through rentals as the pirates will need to rent the games to back them up (and yes of course games can be downloaded for free but really... i am not downloading a 25-100gb game)
not forgetting all of the online stuff that they can sell and make money out of
but that is only IF there release something that will allow hackers to play back ups,
thats the reason why i wouldnt be surprised if sony did secretly do something like this.

Hey pizzag the reason it didn't work is because the BD encryption key is not on the backup.All current backups of PS3 games are messed up,and the encryption key needs to be extracted in order to create a workable backup.The only way to obtain the encryption key is by using a Blu-Ray drive with a hacked firmware or a dev unit.I haven't seen any development on creating a hacked firmware for a Blu-Ray drive to read the BD encryption,because the BD encryption hasn't been discovered yet.

mub6, calling people Ladies doesn't make you more of a Man. In regards to you not appreciating 10 e-mails you could always unsubscribe from the thread or un-check the little box that says "Check this box, if you want to get email notifications when new messages are added to this thread."
Is it possible that we could all have conversations that respect each other and not throw insults around? Regardless if we do not agree with each other, it is important that we can be mature enough to say things that do not offend others.
