I'm educated not as far as capabilities beyond gaming with xbox-
Is there anything I can do with it that doesn't require mod chips?

I hate exploits, they're to time consuming, your probably afraid to melt metal and fry your xbox I bet either that or you don't want to spend the cash. You can get modchips(Xecuter 2.3b lite plus) that just screw on with one screw and using pogopins to touch the debug points and d0 point (easy), or if it is that your cheap and just want to play backups, go get a alladin modchip, i think they're cheap, can't remember anyways not sure but there are cheap 20 dollar ones somwhere.

i've given up for now... just isn't too appealing. plus, i see no real "point" in doing it, besides playing pirated games, and bragging that you have like, a screensaver on your xbox.. for all i know i'd get made fun of because i wasted so much time on something so retarded! lol... later.

There are more reasons why people mod their xbox's then just to play pirated games. Like for example to use it as a media-center, or to play emulators, which I use a lot.

"i see no real "point" in doing it, besides playing pirated games, and bragging that you have like, a screensaver on your xbox.. for all i know i'd get made fun of because i wasted so much time on something so retarded!"
ah, but that barely scratches the tip of the iceberg with regards to what your xbox can really do. you can store games in the hdd and not subject the dvd-rom to the usual wear and tear, you can play/stream music and videos from the box (as vular mentioned), go online gaming (even if you're broke), play old school games (ps1, nes, n64), surf the net (well, casual browsing, anyway), backup your data, etc. this is not to mention possible developments that may yet show up in the near future.
i understand and respect some people's decision to be purists and leave their boxes untouched, but hey, why not give it a go. you might enjoy it. cheers!!

well, the whole process of getting your xbox to run like media and stuff... it's only illegal in one step, that i know of, but you don't care?? it does't matter how you rationalize it to your own conscience... it's not your law to bend... you're going to get in trouble with repeat offenses...

Yeah, you'd think when you buy a car, you can upgrade it. Same with pc's... do yourself a favor- research the legalities and make sure you're not doing anything illegal... if it seems like stealing or hacking, it's probably been prohibited.

hey, like i said, i respect your decision. plus, it means you don't void your warranty in case the xbox screws up (assuming it's still under the warranty period). to each his own, i say :)

Exploiting it myself, yes, but only if it's legal.
i would like to know if there is a way to modify the xbox "legally" to play wmv video.
edit: and each step to mod the xbox must be proven legal to me.
I doubt it's legal... so i won't touch it...
