Tools to shrink DVD9?

I have a notebook that doesn't have too much space available to copy the entire dvd. Currently I am using alchol 120%, which creates an 1:1 image of the dvd. So the sizes are anywhere from 4.7 tp 9GB. I just need the dvds to view them on my notebook when I travel. I don't want to carry all those movies. So my question is can you guys recommend easy to use software that will take the dvd and resize it to smaller size and copy it to my hard drive so I can view them without the physical dvd.

Depending on wether or not you want to keep the rip in DVD format or not, I have a few suggestions.

If you do want to keep the movie in DVD format on the HD (takes up much more room, but better quality) I would suggest using DVD Shrink. This program is capable of shrinking the size of the DVD plus only ripping the movie without all of the menues and everyting. There are guides for use all over the internet uncluding this one http://www.mrbass.org/dvdshrink/

If you wish to sacrifice quality in order to fit more movies on to your HD you may want to take a look at Gordian Knot. This all in one rip and convertion pack can rip the dvd and convert it to DivX format which will make the files much smaller. There is a good guide for this process at http://www.divx-digest.com/articles/dvd2divx5_gordianknot.html

Just so you know, both of these programs are freeware so you don't have to worry about spending any money.

I tired DVDShrink. I really don't like it very much. Are there alternatives to this program?

iff you dont like using DVD Shrink , try using DVD2One its not a ripper just a shrinker so you will have to rip with decrypter or what ever your using .
dvd2one isnt free im not sure how much the latest version is .
cant understand why you dont like using shrink though , ive got the latest version and it works error free for me .
anyway DVD2One is an easy program its a bit like shrink as it can back up a full dvd or just the movie .

Well I was getting lots of error and would not play some of them on my stand alone dvd player. I'm going to try the latest version and see how it does. If not I'll try DVD2One. Thanx for your info!

What type/brand media are you using? If you're using junk media, the best software in the world isn't going to help.

Any chance you could ID the manufacturer of the discs for us with this tool?

Both Memorex and TDK buy from different manufacturers and slap their name on it - some is good, some isn't :)
