Hey all,

I have been backing up some of my recent dvd's and have found it to be very time consuming and wanted to know if it should take more than 5.5 hours to rip one dvd (not burning it yet)?

Here are my specs:
Pacific digital 8x external
Lite on dvdrw cd-r/rw LDW 851s
Using USB 2.0 card
Winxp 1 gig of memory @ 450 mhz.

Can someone tell me the typical time it takes to backup a DVD such as the Soprano's?
Just wanted to see if there aare any other ways to do this faster. THanks for all your help!

The more compression you use, the longer it takes,but ripping out of my dvd rom drive rarely takes me longer than 40-50 minutes(usually around 20-30 minutes)
Your times seem way out of line,check to see if you need to defrag, or maybe even its as simple as a reboot.

I have defragged the HD and have also rebooted many of times. Any other ideas?? I know that it takes a while to compress but I wouldnt think around 5.5 hours would you?

Any of the Sopranos discs did not take me any longer than an hour and 15 minutes (including burn).

If you are ripping with a burner drive it may be factory locked at a 2X rip speed. If so, you will need a hacked firmware to unlock the rip speed . The problem is that hacked firmware will usually void any remaining warranty. Read up on the process before you flash. Doing it wrong can kill a drive.

Very interesting to hear that. By chance do you or anyone else know of a link that has a hack for the ldw-851s or any other information pertaining to this?

This site has most of the hacked firmware. Once on the site, use the search for your drive.
