Trying to back-up Shriek for the kids before they destroy it and I have gotten the following error message:

"DVD Shrink has encountered and error and cannot continue. Failed to write file VTS_01_4.VOB
There is not enough space on the disk."

The error message comes at 93% of the encoding process.
I have plenty of space on my HDD. I use the re-authoring so I dont have to compress that much and only want to B/U the movie.

Anyone else have this problem? Any ideas?
I use nero when it comes time to burn.

What kind of media are you using? Also, are you multi-tasking during this process?

It sounds like your Hard Disk Drive is using a FAT 32 file system. FAT 32 has a 4GB file size limit. If you are writing a ISO Image file to a FAT 32 drive you will get that error because it is larger than 4GB. If you write files to a Hard Disk folder you will not have that problem. If you want to write ISO image files we need to know what version of Windows are you using? The solution depends on the version.

No. Not multi-tasking.

Yes - FAT 32

Yes - Writing ISO to FAT 32

Writing the ISO to a folder on my Hard drive. Is that the same as Hard Disk Folder?

Using windows 2000 pro

Any help would be appreciated. :)

Thanks.

When you use DVD Shrink you have a choice of writing files to a Hard Drive Folder or to a ISO Disk Image.
If you write files to a Hard Disk folder you get VOB, IFO and BUP files. These files will fit on a FAT 32 drive. When you write to a ISO Disk Image you get one large ISO file that is often to large because it is larger than the FAT 32 4GB file size limit.

Solutions:
If you are going to keep a FAT 32 file system then you need to select a target of a Hard Disk folder.
If you want your target as a ISO Image File, then you need to use a NTFS file system.

http://www.ntfs.com/ntfs_vs_fat.htm
Convert your FAT 32 drives to NTFS. NTFS does not have a 4GB file size limit like FAT 32 does.
Example:
Click Start - Run and type.
Convert C: /FS:NTFS

Before you make the conversion to NTFS.
It is a good idea to both defragment and error check fixing both file system errors and recovery of bad sectors.
Right click on your drive and select Properties and these options are on the Tools tab.

What is a HD folder and how do you set one up?

Thanks.

That should say, if you want to use FAT 32 then you do not want to select Target Device: ISO Disk Image.

You select the Target Device when you click Back-up.

Ok I used the Hard disk folder option and got Audio TS & Video TS. Now I went into Nero and tried to burn them but I must be doing something wrong. What files do I burn? as I cannot get my burn button to light up so I can hit it t start burning?

You can configure Shrink to automatically use Nero to burn, that is how I have mine set.

If you separately open Nero, select create DVD video, then you have to double click the Video_TS folder that Nero displays to open it, it is where you add your bup, ifo and VOB files to. Do nothing with the Audio_TS folder. After adding those files, your Burn button should turn on.

its been said earlier that you can burn using srink and Nero together automaticly , this is how you do it mate :-
1, put your dvd in and open shrink
2, analyze your dvd
3, now click on edit , then click preferences , then click file I/O , now where it says burn settings make sure the tick box is ticked for enable burning with nero
4, select backup and change the target device to your dvd writer drive then your done just click ok and off you go
by doing this DVD Shrink will rip , encode then burn your backup without anymore assistance from you
hope that helped :o)
this will work with a fat32 file system as it is not creating an iso image , it is using VOB files etc....
