DVD Shrink 3.1.7 will not start

Hi,

I installed DVD Shrink 3.1.7 on my WinXP, SP1, DirectX9.0b system. It won't start! After double clicking it, the hourglass blinks for a few seconds and then nothing. In the processes window, you can see it hanging, but no interface. It worked fine on my laptop, but it's not of any use there. Anyways, it must be my system that's not right. I've tried uninstalling and installing the software several times, but the same problem remains. Any ideas?

Something you can try.

The DVD Shrink default video renderer may be the wrong one for your system.

You will have to use regedit to access the registry and disable the video/audio preview.
Start >> Run >> Regedit
Search for the following key:
[HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\DVD Shrink\DVD Shrink 3.1\Preferences]
Open this "folder", in the right pane right-click on "VideoPreview" and modify its value to "0".

Try opening DVD Shrink.
If it now works, go to
Edit >> Preferences >> Preview Tab
Enable video and audio preview and try a different DirectX video renderer.

Thanks for the idea, but in that 'folder', there are eight items, none of them reads "VideoPreview"

There should be about 35.

Have you tried downloading it again in case you got a bad download.
