21-year-old Chicago resident Andre Curry has been arrested an charged with battery less than a week after he posted a picture on Facebook of his child with bound wrists, ankles, and tape over her mouth.
The caption for the photo said "This is wut happens wen my baby hits me back. ;)" The girl is reportedly just 22 months old.

As heinous as this lousy parent's actions are, I just hope this doesn't create a wave of parents too afraid to PROPERLY discipline their children.
When laws allow unlimited ownership of ideas, it is to a society as iron fusion is to the core of a star.
When verified realities lead us to anger, we must learn to reevaluate our beliefs.

I would bet you think properly disciplining include battery. I imagine you don't even have children. People like you are no different than the jack wagon who tied his kid above. You should be afraid of speaking like that in front of other people you mouth breather.

Proper discipline should not include battery, assault, torture, or any other kind of abuse. It's not needed.
Teach your child by example. You should be their hero, not their warden. I wonder where this child learned to hit someone...

in no way defending what this guy did, no excuse for what is shown in that picture, but i really hope this was just his idea of a joke and that the child wasn't really disciplined like this. I don't know the backstory, but my mind went to the idea that maybe the kid was playing around with the tape and the dad just took it too far for a joke. Maybe that is just wishful thinking though, there are some sick people out there.

In what way did I indicate what I consider proper discipline?
Who are you to bet on what I think proper discipline is or is not? I would _NEVER_ say to _ANYONE_, either in person or on the net, what you have accused me of thinking, doing, or believing.
Please apologize, and stop saying to people online what you likely would never say to them in person.

I kind of agree here, Burnasty took his comment way over the line. Parents are afraid to discipline their kids these days, and you don't need violence to discipline. Talking can work, so can a time-out. Heck when my son acts up around X-Mas time I say Santa is going to take away presents from under the tree, and when he wakes up he sees fewer there than there were the night before. That is discipline too. Did that involve hitting, choking, gagging, no. Was it right to assume Clam_Up does the any of that? hell no. Apology should be done, but sadly it's not a legal requirement to blab ones mouth on the net.

if i cursed at someone,gave them the bird or other general rudeness. i got ten swipes of genuine cow hide on genuine human hide that was that.
time outs work as well if done right, my time outs way back consisted of standing in a corner facing the wall with my hands behind my back the minimum was always 30 minutes. if i turned around 10 minutes added, if i complained 5 minutes added. after several times of standing for hours on in facing a wall. i got the hint. i was always given the choice to stand till my legs hurt, or stand for 8 hours strait cause my ass was too sore to sit down. i took my time outs very seriously.
Talking never worked for me, because while my parents where telling me why that's wrong, my mind was visualizing my next big wrong thing to do.

my mother had a piece of hame strap.to those of you who dont know,it came from a horse harness.if i did something bad enough i got a licking.didnt scar me emotionally.that having been said,this guy should be hung from his nuts,and should never be allowed to procreate again.

I hear all the pissing & whining. And All I can say from having lived both sides of the fence is that discipline for kids is a mixed bag of tricks. What works for one kid, doesn't work for another; plus, one form of punishment for a 'crime' doesn't need to befall the culprits head either.
I.e., when I set fire to my 'to be' step mother's house I got an ass beating that rivaled that of a meat tenderizer in a busy steak house on a Saturday night. No bullshit, 12 hour marathon ass blistering , tour de force. When I say I couldn't sit down for a week I mean I couldn't remember the week before because I was beaten unconscious for that one.
Equally so, I was tethered punishments that merited (while not as harsh) much more severity than deserved.
All this meaning, some kids you can bark out a few words of profanity & disapproval & get your point across. The behavior changes. Some you'll have to make a move for something more corporal, but even that kid can make a change from the same Lee Ermey barking when used properly.
It boils down to the adult & whether or not that butt reaming asshole deserves to be a "parent". Some/most would question me 3 sides to Sunday & with good reason. I think every parent should be questioned. If nothing more, if you're not questioning yourself, you're not worth a shit as a parent to begin with.
But to those who AREN'T parents, but kids discussing parental roles, back off. This is just one of those cases where walking a mile in another's shoes needs to take place. No, I don't defend this SOB by any stretch of the imagination, because this child is now going to grow up thinking this is a good idea.
I was lucky, I broke the cycle in my family. This kid, like so many others, may not be that lucky or may die in the process of trying to survive this idiot.

personally think this was the parents idea of a joke.the child probably wasnt hurt and probably untied after the photo was taken.
some children get beaten black and blue and turn out badly.other kids get yelled at a few times and behave.What really pisses me off is them parents that think there kid cant do anything wrong.my parents didnt beat me or my brothers and sisters as a kid we didnt turn out badly.

Yes, this was likely a poor joke.
As for corporal punishment...
There was little crime when the adage spare the rod and spoil the child was enforced. In the US, SAT scores permanently plummeted about a decade after corporal punishment was banned in schools. The only child of Dr. Benjamin Spock committed suicide. Spock was the major factor in stopping corporal punishment as the main stay of child punishment. He claimed corporal punishment scarred the child's mind. It seems many members feel the same way. A neighbor sent his Juvenal delinquent son to live with his mom in Nigeria after his house had rocks thrown through windows and fire bombs thrown at the house from a rival gang. In Nigeria, you can call the police to come beat your child if he is acting up. One summer of that turned the kid into a model student and he was able to graduate HS. He was able to get a decent job after school and never got into trouble again. I asked him what turned him around and he said he never wanted to go back to Africa. Apparently the beatings were quite severe. By the end of the summer, he was doing forced labor all day for his grandmother.
There is a difference between punishment and taking rage out on a child. That is child abuse. Even if the above was not a joke, this was not child abuse in my book. Still, I think this fool is getting what he deserves.

Actually, violent crime rates have been consistently falling since your fictitious ideal past. Beating a child only teaches them that violence is the way to deal with problems.

Welcome to the Dr. Phil version of discipline! I was spanked as a kid when I crossed the line and I'm not mentally scarred or ill, I have a well paying job and have High self esteem and ZERO criminal record! (anyone want my fingerprints for proof so you can run it through NCIC or AFIS?) Sorry Dr. Phil but your so called methods of discipline don't work! Timeouts may or may not work it all depends on the situation and the kids/parents.

Says you! You need no proof, your belief all the proof you need. Your belief that crime is down from a century ago is a joke! Murder and rape for a large city like Philadelphia was in single digits for a year even if you combined them. Now people like you fixed it and we have more serious crime in a month than we had in a year. In DC some years we average more than 1 murder per day. How is that better?
