I just installed and tried to use my software. I got an error message of "UnableOpenVob" during the read to temp folder step 1. Any suggestions? I found some suggestions on the microsoft knowledge base but not quite what I need.

I tried several disk so I don't think scratches are the issue. I have the DVDXCOPY Platinum 4.0.3.8

My system is Gateway Performance 1300 Pent4 1300MHz, 60GB HD,512MB of RAM, WinXP Pro, Matshita DVD-ROM, and Sony DVD RW DRU-510A

I was also wondering if I should save the movies to my HD first, but I'm not sure how to do that properly. Plus, I thought that this software created a temp file to store the movie to the HD before it burned it.

No you shouldn't store movie's to your HD if your using v4.0.3.8 ... the browse button doesn't work. You would need v4.0.4.15RF.

How long does it try to read before you get the error message? Can you post the error log? (it will be in your platinum folder)

Top of the evening flip. The emulator usage isn't in the book and not everyone knows about it.

An ISO file on the HD loaded in an emulator can be recognized by the Advanced segment of Platinum and the simple Xpress. Used this method for a lot of burns and know it works.

I use DVD Decrypter in ISO read mode, load the ISO file into Daemon, with no disks in the drives, I open Platinum. The prog opens the simulated drive. If not, you can find the simulated drive added by the emulator. These tools are free.

How much free space do you have on the HD? You need a minimum of 10 to 12 GB and I prefer 15GB of free HD space.

In answer to the temp file, yes. Xcopy creates a temp file from which it works. This makes it more memory intensive than working from the HD with an ISO file.

Edited due to error.

Another added goodie using the emulator; your dvd player software can pick up the simulated drive and play the movie on the monitor. So you can actually view the movie before you burn. Or if you get a burn error, you can check it against the file that you burned from. Something you can't do with temp files. Love those emulators.
